Rosemeade Fifth Graders Learn GuitarRosemeade fifth-grade students in Mr. Farr’s music class learn how to play the E minor chord, and more, with the guitar. Mr. Farr uses a combination of modeling, student demonstrations, and analogies in his lessons. The students attentively listen and eagerly practice. Known for his patient demeanor, Mr. Farr works to make each student feel successful as they play their first chords, and full songs.

Tech Titans Visit CFB

On Sep. 20, Tech Titans visited CFB to encourage 8th-grade girls to consider a future in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Math (STEM). Tech Titans is a forum that leverages the regional technology community to collaborate, share and inspire creative thinking that fuels tomorrow’s innovations. Eighth-grade girls from Blalack, Bush, Field, Long, Perry, and Polk Middle Schools, visited Smith High School for the opportunity to hear from the Tech Titans forum and to posit questions to the attendees. Employees from Ericsson, Fujitsu, Thomson Reuters, and others were on hand to share their experiences as women in the technology field.

Newman Smith Debate Shines at Tournament

Newman Smith DebaterIt was a good weekend for Newman Smith Debate at the Jasper High School Tournament on September 15th.

All members of the team improved their record from the previous tournament at Plano.

Team Captains Elizabeth Ghil and Kaushik Jampala had outstanding performances.​ Elizabeth went undefeated in preliminary rounds and was the top seed in Lincoln Douglas Debate. She reached the quarterfinals of the tournament losing on a 2-1 decision. She was also the top speaker in the tournament earning 119.5 out of a possible 120 points.

Kaushik was the 3rd top speaker in the tournament.

Good Gators Expand Their Communication Skills

Good Gators Expand Their Communication SkillsAt the beginning of the school year, first grade students at Good are hard at work growing in their Approaches to Learning Communication Skills.  These transdisciplinary skills connect to every aspect of life.

Students used their writing skills as they planned their “small moment” stories and then started to compose their personal narratives! These students are learning to think critically and deeply about a moment in their lives and then expand on that moment detail by detail in writing.

CFB Administration Building Employees Participate in Canned Food Drive

Employees at the CFBISD Administration Building participated in a canned food drive for Metrocrest Services. Metrocrest Services is a local non-profit organization that supports adults, children, and seniors in the CFB community. The CFB Administration Building signed up to collect canned peas and carrots for the drive, while other CFB campuses have signed up to have a drive for other needs for the organization. Metrocrest Services’ slogan for the drive is “One Can Make a Difference.”

Our school could not run as smoothly as it does it we did not have dedicated people who serve our students and their families. Thank you to the cafeteria staff and all our dedicated teachers who serve the students at Good Elementary.
