Parents – Conceal Carry

August 17, 2017

Dear Early College High School parent/legal guardian and students:

Beginning August 1, 2017, license holders will be allowed to carry concealed handguns on the campuses of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) and all other public colleges and universities in the state, as permitted by Texas law.

The DCCCD has developed a policy to address concealed carry on campus. Under the policy, concealed handguns will not be allowed in certain areas of our campuses; those areas will be identified as “exclusion zones.” However, the policy does not ban concealed handguns from all areas of DCCCD campuses where a Dual Credit (DC) or Early College High School (ECHS) student might be present. This means DC and ECHS students may be in certain areas of a DCCCD campus where a license holder carrying a concealed handgun may also be present.

The DCCCD takes the safety and security of our students seriously. We are working closely with ECHS and DCCCD administrators to keep Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD staff and parents/guardians informed and to provide students with the latest information about policies and procedures concerning concealed carry on campus.

During our campus ‘Saturday Morning Coffee with the Principal’ on September 9, 2017 at
10:00 AM we will provide more information regarding the concealed carry policy and answer any questions you may have.

In addition, DCCCD will provide student and staff training on the DCCCD Campus Carry policy, as well as on-going training on campus safety and security.

Our goal is to continuously work closely with DCCCD administrators to keep Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD’s school staff and parents/guardians informed and provide students with the latest information about DCCCD policies and procedures concerning concealed carry on campus.

We encourage you to visit www.dcccd.edu/ConcealedCarry for more information or feel free to contact Mr. Andrew Deibert, Brookhaven College Dean of Outreach and High School Services at (972) 860-4700. You may always call or visit with me regarding this matter as well (972) 968-6260.

Sincerely,

Timothy A. Isaly, Principal
