Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

Arrival
Parents may drop off students by either using the Morning Drop Off Line or by parking in the parking lot and walking the student across the crosswalk.

Please drive along the curb to drop-off students. Move as far forward as possible. The lane to the left is for passing through to exit the campus. Please do not use the outside lane to move
ahead of other cars at the curb. We ask parents to be patient as students are getting out of their cars. School staff will insure that traffic moves as quickly as possible.

Parents must stay in your car. Please have children prepared and ready for drop off. If child is not ready, you will be asked to move forward or park your car.

All students ENTER the side cafeteria door and say good bye to parents at this location.

As you wait in line to pick up your child, please turn the visor down to show their name. When you are ready to leave the driving lane raise the visor.
  6. All car riders will be supervised by teachers.
  7. Any child not picked up by 3:05 pm will be taken to the front office.
  8. Parents must come to the front office and sign them out for the day.

Pre-K Dismissal Procedures:
All parents must park in a legal parking spot and walk to the grassy area behind the dumpsters. Teachers will look for the child’s name on the colored tag. Students will be dismissed to parents at that time

Buses:
Students who ride a bus will wait in the grade level hallways. Students will be supervised by teachers in the hallway and while getting on the bus. (Parents cannot pick up their child from
the bus lane). A child who does not ride a school bus cannot go home with another student on a school bus. Also, students can only ride the school bus assigned to them. They cannot ride another school bus at any time. Please send written notification if your child will not be riding the bus home. A bus contract will be sent home with all children riding buses. Code of Conduct will be enforced on school transportation to ensure the safety of all students.

Walkers:
Students who walk home will be released from the northeast exit near the gym. They will be escorted, by a teacher, to the corner of Valley Ranch Parkway and Ranch Trail. A crossing guard will be on duty.

Day Care:
Students who attend day care will wait in the gym until their van arrives. Students will be supervised by teachers.

After the Bell:
All parents who pick up their child from the ATB program are required to park in the side parking lot closest to the gym and use the secure door for entering the building. The ATB staff will help you with sign out procedures.

Changes in Dismissal:
If there is a change in a child’s dismissal routine, a parent or legal guardian must provide the change of transportation, in writing, to the front office by 12:00 pm on the day the change is
to take place. Written documentation may be submitted in person, by email, or by fax.  A change in transportation cannot be submitted on a daily basis. This is for extenuating circumstances only. The school’s fax number is 972-968-1710. Please provide your name, child’s name, teacher, date, method of transportation for that day only, and your signature on the document. Frequent changes in transportation may cause confusion for your child.

Students Leaving Before Dismissal:
In order to maximize instructional time, students will not be released from school after 2:30 p.m. If you must pick your child up early for an appointment, you will need to come to the
office and sign your child out. Please allow at least five minutes before you need to leave in order to allow time for us to send for your child. To minimize loss of instructional time, we will
not send for your child until you arrive at school.

REMINDERS for arrival and dismissal:

  2. Hand held electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, etc.) cannot be used in active school zones. (City of Irving Ordinance)

Parent Self-Serve
Welcome to TEAMS Parent Self Serve. This is a parent information system that interfaces with our student information system – TEAMS. Using this system will allow you to view your child’s
grades and other information.

All parents will need to create a new account.  Current users will keep the same ID & Password.

Please select New Users to begin the registration process.

You will be prompted to create a User ID (maximum of 32 alpha/numeric characters) and Password (maximum of 64 alpha/numeric characters). You will also be prompted to create
a security question/answer (maximum of 150 characters) for validation in the event of a forgotten password.

All children will appear under this account (if you have more than one child). If the data you provide matches the data in TEAMS, you are automatically authenticated and ready to use
PSS.

If the data does not match, the authenticated process will fail and you will need to contact the school to resolve the data error. Once it is corrected, you will be able to proceed with
registration. We highly encourage all parents to register on Parent Self Serve.

Dress Code: Standardized

Allergies:

The district requests to be notified when a student has been diagnosed with a food allergy, especially those allergies that could result in dangerous or possibly life-threatening reactions either by inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact with the particular food. It is important to disclose the food to which the student is allergic, as well as the nature of the allergic reaction.

Parent Statement of Food Allergies
Please indicate on the form if your student has significant food allergies. You may keep Benadryl and an Epi-pen in the clinic accompanied by physician orders. The Physicians Form for Diet Modification must be completed by a physician and given to the nurse to allow the cafeteria to make food substitutions. This form can be found at www.cfbisdnutrition.com or in the school clinic.

Assemblies:

Assemblies will be scheduled throughout the year. Information regarding end of the year ceremony will be sent prior.

Attendance:

Did you know we are funded by the state based on daily attendance of every child?

Regular school attendance is very important to our school accountability rating and your child’s academic success! Every effort should be made to make sure that students are in school daily and on time. If your child is sick, please call the office at 972-968-1700 to inform the school by 9 a.m. If you cannot call, please send a written note the next day describing the reason for the absence. Students are tardy after the 7:40 bell and should report to the office for a tardy note. When a child is tardy, the parent must accompany the child into the building. It is important your child is on time. By law, administration is required to help students who are having attendance issues. Meetings, including home visits, are scheduled when students are not meeting the attendance requirements. Attendance must be checked on when a student has 3 or more absences in a four-week period or 10 or more in a six month period. Nineteen or more yearly absences for any reason may results in further action including grade retention.

Birthdays:

We enjoy recognizing children’s birthdays. If you would like to recognize your child by sending a treat for the class, we would ask that you send a birthday pencil, stickers, bookmarks or other small items that can be used in the classroom. With allergies, dietary restrictions, etc., food items can cause problems for our students. Therefore, we request that you not send food items. Treats will be given at the end of the instructional day. Invitations to parties outside of the school are NOT permitted. Students are honored by staff members on the day of or closest to the actual
birthday. Children are invited to the office to receive a birthday pencil.
Thank you in advance for your support!

Books:

If a student damages or loses a textbook and/or library book, he/she is responsible for paying to replace or repair the book.

Breakfast & Lunch:

Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 7:05 – 7:25. Breakfast and Lunch with parents will be on Fridays only beginning the last Friday of September. We will use the first month of school to help students learn the procedures for lunch. To protect the integrity of the instructional day, office staff will not be able to deliver lunches to classes. Lunches that are dropped off for students will be put in a basket by grade level in the office and brought to the cafeteria at 10:30 am each morning. Children will be taught to look in the basket for their lunch. After 10:30, we will not be delivering lunches, so children will eat from the cafeteria.

Cafeteria:

Please make sure your child has money in his/her lunch account or make sure he/she comes to school with lunch money each day. If you need assistance, you may complete a lunch form online

Cell Phones/Electronic Devices:

For safety purposes, the district permits students to possess personal mobile telephones; however, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including during all testing, unless they are being used for approved instructional purposes. If a student uses a telecommunications device without authorization during the school day, the device will be confiscated. The parent may pick up the confiscated telecommunications device from the principal’s office for a fee of $15. Students are only allowed to use their personal cell phone or technology device when permission has been granted by the teacher or monitor.

Change of Information:

Parents are required to inform the office immediately after the family has moved/changed residences. A copy of the new lease or mortgage is required. Parents are also required to update phone
numbers and contact information when necessary. It is essential that the school has updated phone numbers in case of emergencies.

Conferences:

All parents are expected to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences. We encourage parents to keep in touch with their child’s teachers throughout the school year. We want to build a positive, life-long
relationship with our families.

Delivering Messages, Homework and Other Items to Students in Class:

To avoid disrupting instruction, we will ONLY deliver eyeglasses to a child. Keeping instruction free from interruptions is the goal of our school. Lunches will be delivered to the cafeteria, and parents needing to bring in lunch money can visit our cafeteria to apply the money to the child’s account. We will NOT be delivering messages on a regular basis to children when you call: only in a rare emergency should we be changing how a child will get home. Please make arrangements for dismissal before your child comes to school.

Discipline Procedures:

We want to partner with all families to help our students be their best. Rules are an important part of school learning and activities. It is important that students follow school and classroom rules in order to learn and be safe. Each teacher develops a set of classroom expectations and consequences. The expectations and other classroom procedures will be explained at the beginning of each year.

A student who seriously disobeys the Student Code of Conduct may be sent to the office for further consequences.
If a child is in the office for a referral:

  • Parents will be called.
  • A consequence may be given. Actions that may result from the referral will follow the Student Code of Conduct.
  • A referral slip will be sent home for a parent signature. These are required to be sent back the following day.

If a child is in the office for a referral, one parent will be notified via phone or email if consequences are assigned. Visiting with a child as part of an investigation will not warrant a parent contact.

If another child is hurt as the result of an incident that leads to an office referral, the child’s parents are called as well.

Due to confidentiality, administration is not allowed to disclose names of students involved in discipline matters or what the consequence is given to any student.
**Refer to the C-FB Code of Student Conduct and Student/Parent Handbook for further information

End of the Day Student Pick Up:

Students are dismissed at 2:55 for the regular day and 3:55 or as indicated by parent permission form if they are in tutoring. Students, who are NOT in tutorials, must be picked up by 3:05.  Parents who do not pick up by this time are required to come in to the building and sign their child out. Tutoring students must be picked up by 3:55 or as indicated by parent permission form in the front of the building. Pre-K releases at 2:45 pm.

Field Trips:

In addition to completing and passing the background check, parents who wish to go on a field trip will sign up with the teachers and be contacted to attend and help. Often we have more volunteers than we can use on a particular field trip. If that is the case, we will let you know.  Parents, friends, family, who are not officially a part of a particular field trip may not attend or join up with the group. Children, from Freeman who attend the trip, must ride the District buses to and from the field trip.  Children are not released to adults at the field trip to be brought home
separately from the rest of the students.

Health Guidelines:

Students should not come to school if they are ill, experiencing symptoms, or have a fever. Students who become ill at school should notify the teacher, and they may be sent to the clinic. Students should stay home at least 24 hours (1 day) after the symptoms are gone (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) Parents should contact the school nurse, Kristen Kaser, if they detect or suspect head lice.

Lockdown:

If a situation occurs and our school building is in “Lock Down,” we will not be able to release your student to you. Please listen to local media for updates.

Lunch Applications:

Now you can apply for free or reduced school meals online!

You may use a school computer to apply if needed. (Paper applications are still available. Please complete and return to the school office.)
Additional federal school funding can to be used for school resources including technology and personnel based on data received from lunch applications. Please complete the form even if your child will not be eating from the school cafeteria.

Medications

All medications must be taken to the school’s clinic. Disciplinary action will be taken when a student violates this procedure. Only a student with written authorization from his/her parent and physician or other licensed health care provider, and who meets all other requirements, may be permitted, to use prescribed medication at school or school-related events. The parent/guardian should notify school nurse if student has been prescribed medication during the school day. Employees of the District may administer medication to a student provided: [Board Policy
FFAC (Legal)].

  • The District has received a written request to administer the medication from the parent, legal guardian, or other person having legal control of the student.
  • When administering prescription or non-prescription medication, the medication appears to be in the original container and to be properly labeled. [Education Code
    22.052]

Parent Communication from School:

We communicate in several ways to parents so that you are informed about your child’s education. The most current information regarding school events and activities will be communicated on our website, Facebook and Twitter. Please follow us on social media to stay informed.

Grade levels will use communication folders or planners as necessary.

The District and campus regularly use ParentSquare to communicate.  Please sign-up & download the app to stay informed.

PTA:

PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association. This is an organization of parents and staff at Freeman. PTA sponsors educational activities for parents and students throughout the year. Membership is $10.00 per family per school year and forms are available in the front office. We encourage all families to be involved in PTA.

Visitors, Safety, and Security Procedures:

Parents and other visitors are always welcome to visit the school. To volunteer, everyone must complete and pass the background check.

Please check in at the front office for a visitor’s pass. This is important in order to maintain building security and to avoid interrupting the teacher during class time. You must have a picture ID to check in at the office and when you take a student out of school.

Please drive safely in the parking lots. Do not leave your car unattended and follow the signs in the parking lot.

Tardies:

Students go to class at 7:25 am each day. Students are expected to be in class by 7:40 am. If you drop off your child after 7:40 am., you are required to come to the office and sign him/her in for school that day.  Instruction begins each day at 7:40 am. Please help your child get off to a great day by being in class on time and prepared to learn.

Volunteering:

We love to have parents, family and friends volunteer in a variety of capacities. Any person wishing to volunteer in any capacity including, class helpers, field trips, field day, class parties, etc. must complete and pass the background check. This can be done by accessing the district website. For large assemblies, parents are not required to complete the entire background check, but will be checked in through the office.
Please bring your ID with you if you plan to come to the school and eat lunch, attend an assembly or volunteer in any capacity. For the safety of all students, any person wishing to enter the building, even after a background check is complete, is required to show ID and be scanned in.
