Training (BHC & ECHS Faculty)

Faculty Meet & Eat
September 20, 2019 & January 24, 2020

Brookhaven faculty will receive emails from CFBISD ECHS Counselor & the BHC Early College Dual Credit Coordinator

Lead AVID teacher:  Students are in AVID 2-3 times per week.  If they need extra assistance, students may be required to take ZAP (Zeros Are not Permitted) on Fridays, Saturday School, or tutorials.

  • Communicate and let ECHS staff/teachers know what’s going on with the students so they can help students be successful.
  • AVID teachers will visit BHC faculty during office hours to introduce themselves.
  • BHC faculty can email either all 3 AVID teachers if unsure which student is in what grade, or can email to the counselor and she will forward to appropriate person.
  • Faculty may receive requests from seniors for recommendations – don’t feel you have to do one, but you may get asked.

ECHS Counselor: -understands BHC faculty is authority and each classroom is run differently.

  • ECHS sends out progress reports about every 3 weeks; she or the BHC coordinator will email reminders out to BHC faculty for grades.
  • For integrated classes, the only way for ECHS to get grade info is by BHC faculty emailing to ECHS counselor.
  • For cohorts, faculty can add the counselor as a TA – faculty can set her access level. She then is able to view the grades and that alleviates having to email her the grades, but again only for ECHS cohort-only classes and not integrated (classes with non-ECHS students).
    • If you’d like to have the counselor added as TA, email her so she can provide you with her information.
  • Requests syllabi are emailed to her – will use to support/remind student of due dates.
  • Main point of contact for student needs/concerns.
  • Parent contact is with ECHS and not BHC. If faculty receive an email from a parent, there is no expectation for the faculty to reply to the email; faculty can just forward the email to Niki and she will reply and follow-up with the parent.

ECHS advises students to speak with BHC faculty if students have concerns so you may receive emails from student.  If necessary, you can also forward these to Niki to follow-up.

Attendance – ECHS does keep attendance.  Expectation is that ECHS students are in class.  If ECHS students are missing, please email campus attendance clerk or the counselor.

  • ECHS also has a Google Doc they can share with faculty. Faculty can input absences into Google doc and ECHS can just look at it and see.  If interested, notify counselor so she can send the Google doc link.
  • Make sure you complete certification accurately. Don’t mark a student who has not been in attendance and vice versa.

ECHS Rules & Expectations:  can implement personal classroom rooms, but provided handout as FYI to be aware and can use these rules as well (i.e. rules regarding cell phones).
