5th Grade Information

In Orchestra, we offer the following instruments:

The violin is the smallest member of the string family and it produces the highest sound. Violins can play sitting down or standing up and it is played on the violinist’s left shoulder (even if you are right handed). It comes in different sizes to fit your child.

The viola is slightly bigger than the violin and it makes a rich, warm sound that is lower in pitch. It is played on the violist’s left shoulder just like the violin. It comes in different sizes to fit your child.

The cello plays even lower sound than viola and it makes a rich, warm sound. It is played sitting down. It comes in different sizes to fit your child.

The bass is the orchestra’s foundation. It is the largest of all the string instruments, and plays the lowest notes. Even though the bass is large, it is hollow and therefore lightweight. It comes in different sizes to fit your child.
