Tuesday, Oct. 4, the R. L. Turner Girls Golf Team won 1st place in the Duck Creek Classic hosted by Richardson HS. Sophia Garza placed 1st overall, Allison Norris placed 3rd, and Nash Beltran placed 6th and Rese Clark placed 11th. Congratulations!

Senior at Smith Wins 1st Place at Frisco Liberty Tournament!
Congratulations to Senior NSHS Trojan Golfer Casey Washmon.
She shot a low score of 75 yesterday at Plantation Golf Course in Frisco winning 1st Place Medalist at the Frisco Liberty Tournament. She eagled one hole 8 with a chip in.
Also, congratulations to our JV Boys team who placed 2nd at our own Michael Ebanks Tournament on September 19th.
Barbara Bush Middle School – Ms. Mara Leebert becomes a U.S. Citizen!
We want to extend a big Congratulations to Ms. Mara Leebert who became a U.S. Citizen on Saturday! She has been studying American History and Government, and last week she was interviewed by the Immigration and Naturalization officials to see if she qualified. Ms. Leebert passed the interview and on Saturday, she participated in a ceremony with several other hundred people who also became U.S. Citizens. Be sure to Congratulate Ms. Leebert on this wonderful achievement.
CFB Awarded Certificate of Excellence for Financial Reporting
The Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International has awarded Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District its Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award for having met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability.
The district was recognized for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending 2015.
ASBO International, founded in 1910, is a professional organization of 5,000 members that provides programs and services to promote the highest standards of school business management practices, professional growth, and the effective use of education resources.
Weekend Back Packs and Metrocrest Social Services Provides Snacks for Students in Need
CFBISD is thankful to have a partners like Weekend Back Packs and Metrocrest Social Services which provides take home weekend snacks for our students in need. At the end of every week,
children from several of our campuses are given a backpack full of kid-friendly, shelf-stable foods and a backpack to take them home in. The backpacks are provided by the Weekend Back Packs organization and the food is provided by Metrocrest Social Services. This program is completely free to schools and is provided by the Metrocrest Services at no cost to the students.
Students at Good Elementary, Blanton Elementary, Riverchase Elementary, LaVillita Elelmentary, McCoy Elementary, McWhorter Elementary and Furneaux Elementary are enrolled in the WBP program through a referral. Any faculty or staff member can refer a student whom they think is chronically hungry or food insecure. Once on the program, each student receives a backpack full of food every Friday of the school year. They are also able to receive extra sacks of food for younger siblings at home.
The sack of food that each child receives weekly contains shelf-stable, kid-friendly items. All of these items can be opened easily by a child, and they do not require refrigeration or heating. The WBP program strives to provide a high amount of nutrition in each backpack, and it is currently meeting approximately 60% of the weekend nutritional needs for each child in the program. Food 4 Kids supplies participating schools with nutritious, kid-friendly, self-serve food designed to fill a backpack and feed a child over the weekend during the school year.
The WBP program, which kicked off its first school year as a North Texas Food Bank program ( Food 4 Kids) in the spring of 2004, has expanded to over 350 schools in 11 counties throughout North Texas. Last year, the program served up to 11,000 children a week, with plans to continue expanding the program during the upcoming school years.

Rosemeade Elementary is Named One of the Best in the Nation
U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr., announced today that Rosemeade Elementary has been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School. Rosemeade is one among 279 public and 50 private schools receiving this honor. Only 29 schools in Texas received this honor.
Schools are nominated for the award by the state department of education, and then complete a comprehensive application about school practices. Schools may apply for status as Exemplary High Performing-among the top schools in a state-or Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing-schools making the fastest progress in the their state in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
Principal Amy Miller will represent Rosemeade at a two-day awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., to celebrate their hard-won achievements.
