R.L. Turner Presents Beauty & the Beast

RLT Fine Arts will present Disney’s beloved musical Beauty and the Beast January 19, 20 and 21 at 7:00 p.m. The performances start at 7:00 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $10 general admission. All tickets bought at the door are $12. Tickets can be purchased at https://ticketracker.com/store/events/1418.

Considered to be one of the most popular of Disney’s creations, Beauty and The Beast is a “tale as old as time” and appropriate for all ages and audiences. Please join Belle, Gaston, the Beast and all of the beloved characters as they come to life on stage in a beautiful story of love and acceptance.

The production boasts a cast of over 70 members, as well as the 2015-2016 winner of both the Dallas Summer Musicals and Schmidt and Jones awards for Best Orchestra, the R. L. Turner Pit Orchestra.

Newman Smith Debate Team Wins Big at Hebron Tournament

On December 16th and 17th, the Newman Smith Debate team competed at the Hebron High School Tournament and finished the first semester in spectacular fashion!

With only eight students competing the team placed 5th out of 31 schools winning a Sweepstakes award.
Seven of Smith’s eight students were in the elimination rounds in multiple events.

Individual results are as follows:
Elizabeth Ghil: 2nd Place Impromptu Speaking, 3rd Place Extemporaneous Speaking, 3rd Place Debate
Hannah Smith: 3rd Place Impromptu Speaking, 3rd Place Lincoln Douglas Debate

Turner High Band News

The following students were selected for the All-Region Band:
Mychyl Conner, Emily Coronado, Katie Donia, Tony Du, Isabel Graham, Rose Kidson, and Faul Nguyen.
They will represent Turner at the TMEA Region 31 All-Region Band Clinic and Concert in January.

Additional congratulations go to Katie, Rose, and Faul for advancing to the Area round of auditions. Area is the final step of auditions before becoming an All-State musician!

UIL One-Act Play Contest Results

On Friday, Dec.2, all six middle schools competed in the UIL One Act Play contest.  It was an outstanding day of theater, acting, and production.  All of the students and teachers worked hard for many weeks leading up to the competition.  Special thanks to the Creekview High School Theater Department for assisting with the event.  We offer our congratulations to Ms. Lindsay Power and the students at Polk Middle School for winning first place play, “Small Actors”.  Additional congratulations goes to Blalack Middle School for second place play with “Dark Road”, and to Field Middle School for third place play, “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.”  We are proud of all our theater departments!

Creekview Students’ Art Featured in Dallas Museum of Art

Three students from Creekview High were chosen to have their art works featured in the Dallas Museum of Art. Their art has been selected from hundreds of entries from the best art high schools in the metroplex. Please congratulate Shaun Houpy, Violet Smith and Taskeen Zehra. What an honor to have their art in an internationally renowned museum. The work will be on display February 25 - April 16.

Newman Smith Debate Wins McMurry University Tournament

Newman Smith Debate wins McMurry University tournament

On December 2nd and 3rd the Newman Smith Debate team competed at the McMurry University Swing Tournament. The “Swing” is a unique opportunity to compete at two tournaments in one weekend. Smith debaters did well in both tournaments also winning 1st place in Lincoln Douglas Debate for the 3rd year in a row at the McMurry contest.  Congratulations Smith Debaters!

Individual results are as follows:
Anaiya Moran: 1st place and 5th place Lincoln Douglas Debate. Finalist and Semifinalist in Extemporaneous Speaking.
Julian Tagnon: 5th place Lincoln Douglas Debate, Semifinalist in Extemporaneous Speaking in both tournaments.
Elizabeth Ghil: 6thth place Lincoln Douglas Debate.
Brandon Betancourt: Semifinalist in Extemporaneous Speaking

CFBISD Elementary Honor Choir Performs Winter Concert at the Shops at Willow Bend

This past Saturday, December 3, the CFBISD Elementary District Honor Choir, a high level auditioned choir made up of 80 incredible singers from elementary schools throughout the district, performed a winter concert for parents, friends, and shoppers at the Shops at Willow Bend in Plano.

Their themed performance of songs featuring messages of peace, unity, and hope drew a large crowd and was met with a standing ovation!

The team won many awards with all Smith students attending reaching the elimination rounds in an event.
