Hispanic Heritage Month at Las Colinas Elementary
Fourth graders used their research skills to inquire into Hispanic Heritage Month. They created questions as they wondered about those whose roots came from hispanic culture. These who have gone before us had many challenges and opportunities. As students make connections to these leaders, students now understand how they can have “grit” as they endure challenges and stay committed when opportunities come. Students have had good discussions around responsibility and appreciation.
Connecting to Those Who Lost Their Lives
Students in third grade are investigating processes and routines. They closely observed the school custodian as he went through the process of raising and lowering the U.S. flag. Students analyzed how the process of putting up and taking down the flag has certain steps. People follow these steps out of respect for our country. Students spent time on the day of 9/11 honoring those innocent victims who lost their lives that day and felt empathy for their families.
