Bond Update: Thank You CFBISD Voters
On November 6, 2018, the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) held a bond election for $350 million including renovations and improvements to all campuses, safety and security, Career and Technical Education (CTE) improvements, fine arts improvements, athletic improvements, and technology infrastructure.
The students of Carrollton-Farmers Branch are fortunate to have some of the most dedicated parents and teachers in Texas. We are also fortunate to learn that the voters of our community share this passion for quality schools by passing our bond referendum to provide the tools and facilities our students and teachers need to succeed. We appreciate the ongoing support of the CFBISD community and remain committed to making sure these bond funds are spent wisely and efficiently.
These are the unofficial results of the CFBISD Bond Election. Results will not be official until the votes have been canvassed.

CHS Law Students Win UTEP Tournament 4 Years Running
Four the fourth year in a row, the Creekview High School Moot Court team competed at the UTEP Tournament, taking top honors. The University of Texas at El Paso Moot Court Tournament dealt with a case involving the 8th Amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment. In the case brought before the students, an inmate who suffers from vascular dementia due to multiple strokes and cannot remember the crime for which he is to be executed was heard. The real case the scenario is based on is pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Evan Miller and Daniel Sawyers won 1st Place at the event and Evan Miller was also awarded Top Overall Advocate. Makaylia Askew and Avery Worley won 4th Place, while Aileen Mai and Sadie Stevenson advance to quarterfinals.

Newman Smith High School – Fall Festival Hosted by Trojan Baseball
Newman Smith High School Baseball will be hosting their 1st Annual Fall Festival. On November 10th starting at 3 p.m. Kelly Field will open its gates for an evening of baseball fun and games.
Below are a few of the activities that will be going during the festival.
- Hit, Pitch and Run
- Home Run Derby (Begining at 5pm)
- Corn Hole
- Face Painting
- Hitting Velocity
- Throwing Velocity
- And More!
Plus, after sundown, we will be projecting “The Sandlot” on the centerfield wall.

High School Volleyball Teams Heading to Bi-District Playoffs
Congratulations to the Newman Smith Lady Trojans, Turner Lady Lions, and the Ranchview Lady Wolves on making it to the post season playoffs!
Ranchview were the 10-4A “Undefeated” District Champions! Newman Smith and Turner were 3rd and 4th place in District 11-5A!
Congratulations to Coach Christine Gregory (Newman Smith), Coach Nakia Belcher (R.L. Turner) and Coach Ashlyn Tate (Ranchview) on your outstanding coaching in getting our girls to the playoffs!
Good luck to all of our teams in the playoffs and you have made CFBISD very proud!

McCoy Celebrates 2018 Book Character Day
McCoy Celebrates 2018 Book Character Day with a campus-wide parade. Students dressed as a character from their favorite book and walked in a parade through the school. The event is held during Red Ribbon Week. Campuses throughout CFBISD celebrate Red Ribbon Week in different ways. National Red Ribbon Week began 1988 in honor of murdered DEA Agent, Enrique Camarena. The campaign seeks to educate students on the dangers of drugs and addiction, while promoting activities that inspire young minds. At the end of the parade, students went to the gym to watch acrobats from Team Big Air performed basketball trick shots. The acrobats demonstrated that hard work, good choices, and avoiding bad choices such as drugs, allowed them to achieve their dreams.

McCoy Hosts Red Ribbon Week Book Fair
For the week of Oct. 22, McCoy Elementary is hosting a Red Ribbon Week Book Fair in their library. Students have an opportunity to shop for their favorite titles and write down what they want. They are using their math skills to add up totals and tax so they will know how much money to bring the following day to purchase their books. Campuses throughout CFBISD celebrate Red Ribbon Week in different ways. National Red Ribbon Week began 1988 in honor of murdered DEA Agent, Enrique Camarena. The campaign seeks to educate students on the dangers of drugs and addiction, while promoting activities that inspire young minds.

TV Network YTN Covers Korean Class at Blalack
On Oct. 25, a reporter from YTN, a 24-hour news channel from Korea, visited Ms. Seo Yoon’s Korean language class at Blalack Middle School. The reporter recorded footage of activities in the class, including language instruction and information about Korean culture and dress. At the close of class, some students and the teacher were interviewed on camera. Students expressed their interest in the language came about for different reasons. One student expressed a desire to live in Seoul, South Korea and to be an English teacher there when she graduates from college. Another student expressed her interest in K-pop music, and a desire to understand the lyrics.

Digital Kids: Parenting in the Age of Smartphones
CFBISD Parent Education and the CFBISD Council PTA will host a class for parents on raising kids in the age of smartphones. The live presentation will be held on Nov. 7, 2018, 7:50-8:50 AM at Janie Stark Elementary. Stark Elementary is located at 12400 Josey Ln., Farmers Branch, TX 75234. There will be Spanish interpretation at Stark for this event.
