Bronco Lead Group of Barbara Bush Middle School Visit Citi Corp.

The 8th Grade Bronco Lead Group of Barbara Bush middle School attended a very special field trip to Citi Corp. in Irving. This large facility houses 5000 employees and mans a 24 hour call center for banking customers from all over the world. Also at this facility, there are Scrum teams who work together to develop new mobile technology for Citi and are constantly developing new ways to keep their banking customers satisfied. The students visited the call center, the fitness center, and learned about the importance of having a positive digital footprint, now and in the future. They learned about Citi's commitment to community volunteering and about various careers that can be pursued as an employee of this large corporation. Thanks to Citi for hosting them and to these leaders for representing Barbara Bush Middle School so well!

IB Scholars at Barbara Bush Middle School Recognized as Principled Students

Congratulations to these IB Scholars at Barbara Bush Middle School! They have been recognized by their teachers as being principled students. According to the International Baccalaureate, principled people act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. They take responsibility for their actions and their consequences. These students enjoyed lunch with one of our community leaders, Mr. Dany Smith. He talked with the students about his college career, some of the 28 patents that he holds, and how he is principled in his daily work as a designer for Toyota. Congratulations to all of these Learner Profile Leaders!

Landry Elementary Celebrates Dr. Seuss Day

On Mar. 2, 2017, the birthday of author Dr. Seuss, CFB elementary students celebrated by reading the author’s books and having the books read to them.

Tracy Eubanks, President & CEO of Metrocrest Services, visited Tom Landry Elementary to read some of his favorite Dr. Seuss books to students in the library. Students, staff and the guest of honor wore Dr. Seuss themed hats at the event.

Farmers Branch Elementary & R. L. Turner Students Participate in “Jump Rope for Heart”

 

Farmers Branch Elementary students along with help from generous volunteers from the R. L. Turner football team participated in Jump Rope for Heart.  Jump Rope for Heart is a fundraising and physical activity program based around skipping.  It teaches school-aged children how to keep fit and healthy, all while having fun and raising vital funds for heart disease research and education.

Country Place Destination Imagination Team Place 1st in Regionals

Country Place Elementary Destination Imagination team placed 1st in Regionals for the second year in a row! They are headed to the state competition in Lubbock on April 7th & 8th. Destination Imagination is open to all kindergarten through university level students worldwide. Students form teams of up to 7 members, select their preferred Challenge and work together to develop a solution to the Challenge. The Challenges are open-ended and enable students to learn and experience the creative process while fostering their creativity, curiosity and courage. The Country Place Team Manager is a 5th grade parent Abbie Sherman. Congratulations & good luck at the state tournament in April!

Three Newman Smith Students Accepted Into TVAA Art Competition

3 Newman Smith Students are being accepted into the Texas Visual Arts Association 2017 High School Art Competition.  The TVAA High School Art Competition is open to all 10th, 11th and 12th grade high school students who reside in the State of Texas. These students were chosen out of thousands of artworks.

Newman Smith State Wrestling Results

The Trojan wrestling season came to a close on Friday, February 24. Christopher Conway traveled to Houston to compete in the UIL State Wrestling Tournament at the 170 pound weight class.  Chris represented the school and program well at the state meet. He was the first state qualifier for the Trojans since 2015.  Chris' run to the state meet was exceptionally impressive considering it was his first year officially competing in the sport.  Conway is a senior and hopes to continue wrestling after he graduates this summer.  Congratulations on all of your achievements, Chris!
