RLT Lionettes Take 9 Ladies Dancing to the CFBISD Administration Building

9 Ladies DancingBringing holiday cheer to the CFBISD Administration building, the RLT Lionettes performed as “9 Ladies Dancing.” While holiday music played in the background, the Lionettes danced in line in the Administration board room. Employees from the building were invited to the brief performance. Nine Lionettes from R. L. Turner were selected based on their high academic performance.  While they practice their routines, the Lionettes remain focused on their schoolwork as well. These top academic performers include the senior class valedictorian and the sophomore class valedictorian.

Middle School 2017 UIL One Act Play Competition

Middle School Students Compete in 2017 UIL One Act Play Competition

On Dec. 1, all CFB middle schools participated in the 2017 UIL One Act Play competition. The topics of the plays included such subjects as Peter Pan, The Holocaust, and the downside of conformity. First place play went to Perry Middle School for The Frogs, second place play went to Barbara Bush Middle School for This is a Test, while third place play went to Polk Middle School for I Never Saw Another Butterfly.  The competition was conducted by the R. L. Turner Theater Department.

RLT DECA Students Compete for Grants

RLT DECA Students Compete for Grants

On Nov. 29, five RLT DECA students competed for grants at a workshop/competition held by SAP. DECA (Distributitive Education Clubs of America) is a decades-old organization that boasts over 215,000 members and 3,500 high school chapters. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management world-wide. R. L. Turner High School students Ivana Alcala, Celeste Almaguer, Raul Garcia, Hunter Parker, and Darrien Stephens competed at the event. While hoping to win one of ten grants worth $1K each, DECA members divided into 3 groups. They each prepared a project and presented their ideas to a panel of judges. At the conclusion of the event, RLT student, Raúl Garcia, was awarded one of the $1,000 grants for his presentation. Garcia is the President of of DECA at RLT.

Turner Theatre Students Head to National Competition

Turner Theatre Students Head to National CompetitionThanks to their success at the Texas Thespian Festival, Turner theatre students head to National Competition. Students at R. L. Turner High School competed at the statewide event held at the Gaylord Texan Nov. 15-18. The Texas Thespians Chapter is an affiliate of the International Thespian Society, an educational theatre honor society. Their goal is to promote excellence in middle school and high school theatre departments across Texas. The Nationals will take place at the University of Nebraska in June, 2018.

The students who are advancing to Nationals are:

RLT Cosmetology Pairs Up With Davis Manners & Beauty Club

In a symbiotic pairing, RLT Cosmetology students paired up with Davis Elementary’s Manners and Beauty Club. The club is composed of 5th grade girls at Davis Elementary. The club has classes on table manners and nail care, among other topics. Students in the R. L. Turner Cosmetology program study to be licensed cosmetologists in the state of Texas, so they can step into a career after high school. The cosmetology students styled students’ hair according to their preferences. Davis Elementary art teacher and nail artist, Yeari Saschse, is the instructor for the club.

RLT Hosts 2017 Veterans Day Program

Cpl. Henry Doncheski, served in World War II from 1941-1945. He fought on D-Day on Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Liberation of France.

RLT Hosts 2017 Veterans Day Program

Because the sacrifices and service of our veterans are so revered, RLT hosts 2017 Veterans Day program to honor local heroes. R. L. Turner High School students and staff honored first responders and veterans with music, dancing, and tributes. The RLT NJROTC Cadets participated in the color guard ceremony as the orchestra played the theme songs to each of the armed services. Several veterans were in attendance, including two who fought during World War II. Private First Class Alvis B. Grant, from Carrollton, served 1942-1945 and survived the Battle of Iwo Jima. Corporal Henry Doncheski served 1941-1945, fighting on D-Day at Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Liberation of France.

CFBISD Bus Transportation

For the 2018-2019 school year, CFBISD will provide its own transportation services. The District will no longer use Dallas County Schools for transportation. CFBISD is in the process of hiring drivers and monitors as well as establishing routes for the school year.

NJROTC Completes Hundreds of Community Service Hours

NJROTC Completes Hundreds of Community Service HoursWhile helping at the Carrollton Festival at the Switchyard, the R. L. Turner High School NJROTC Completes Hundreds of Community Service Hours. The large festival is held annually at the Old Historic Downtown Carrollton square. Cadets from the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) volunteered throughout the event. During the Nov. 4 event, cadets instructed the games, assisted with directions, and acted as safety monitors. The volunteers greeted a record number of guests to the festival and participated in the clean-up efforts throughout the day.
