Ranchview’s Pre-Prom DWI Event

Each year, Ranchview High School asks Irving Police to help sponsor a pre-prom event to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence for prom goers.  On Wednesday, April 19th,  the Irving Police DWI Unit presented their simulated DWI event using a driving course and their fatal vision goggles in Ranchview’s north parking lot.  Seniors with a drivers license were allowed to drive the course with and without the “drunk goggles” that simulate brain and vision impairment while driving.  Students were quite surprised at their inability to maintain their driving skills while impaired.  Officers also educated them about current DWI Texas laws for both minors and adults.

Thank you Irving PD for participating & sharing this important information!

Ranchview Student Scores Winning Goal for FCD Academy

FCD Academy wins First Dallas Cup at Super Group Level

FCD Academy wins First Dallas Cup at Super Group Level

Ranchview Student, Arturo Rodriguez, signed a full contract to join the u18 FC Dallas Academy team back in February.  He went from his D3 FC Dallas team in the fall to half time practicing in the winter with Academy to earning a full contract. The Academy system aims for MLS teams to develop players just like the minors in MLB.  Arturo has consistently been the first player off the bench for most of the games he has participated in this spring.

Dallas Cup is a world known youth tournament where teams travel from across the globe to compete at different age level. The FC Dallas Academy team Arturo is on participated in the u19 Super Group category which consists of the highest level of youth academies.  Arturo’s team played youth academies from England, Brazil and Mexico.

Last night, Arturo was subbed on with 30 minutes left in the game. FC Dallas was winning for the majority of the game when CF Monterrey tied the game in the 81st minute. 8 minutes later, Arturo received the ball and then dribbled to three Monterrey players and took a shot from 30-35 yards out to score the game winner!

The game was streamed on Univision and later tape delayed on the channel. It was a historic night for the FCD Academy team winning their first Dallas Cup at the Super Group level.  Arturo had the support of his fellow senior teammates along with his little brother David and Lady Wolves soccer players.

IB International Night at Barbara Bush Middle School

The fourth annual International Baccalaureate (IB) International Night was held at Barbara Bush Middle School on Wednesday, April 12th.  All four of CFB’s IB World Schools participated in this evening of learning about our diverse cultures.

ESL students and their parents from Barbara Bush hosted a station about their country and shared small bites of native foods.  The Primary Years Programme teachers from Las Colinas Elementary helped students to make maracas, while the Good Elementary brought Chinese yoyos to play with and Folklorico dancers to perform.  The IB Diploma Candidates from Ranchview High School helped children learn some Spanish and French , while the choirs from Las Colinas, Barbara Bush and Ranchview all sang together on a special piece of music.

We appreciate all of these groups, in addition to the orchestra students and theater students, for supporting this night of community sharing and learning.
