Michael Finley Foundation Presents Opportunities to Select 3rd-7th Grade Students

The Michael Finley Foundation presents their annual G.I.F.T.4.S. for summer at Long Middle School. Forty students will be selected, so spots are limited. The event will take place July 9 – 26, 7:15 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The last day will consist of academics in the morning and a celebration in the afternoon. Free breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon snacks will be served. Students are selected based on the application criteria and parents who commit to supporting their children through the summer and throughout the school year. 2018 School Lunch Hero Day

May 4 is 2018 School Lunch Hero Day. In addition to preparing healthy meals, CFB school nutrition professionals adhere to strict nutrition standards, navigate student food allergies, and offer service with a smile. Our school lunch employees are true heroes. Who needs a cape when you have an apron? While School Nutrition Employee Week is May 7-11, the sixth annual School Lunch Hero day will be May 4. It is a day to remember and thank nutrition staff. Let CFB know about your favorite Student Nutrition employee. La Villita Students Eat, Read, and Succeed

La Villita Students eat, read, and succeed in a promotion sponsored by Student Nutrition. To promote two healthy habits this school year; eating well and reading often, Student Nutrition gives away a book each month in the elementary cafeterias. A student in each grade wins a book when the promotion comes to their school. Winners receive a certificate stating that they won the featured book. For Mar. 26, the book being featured is Little Hen Makes a Pizza. This month, we highlight students from La Villita Elementary School. Students Gudipudi Sandilya, David Perez, Anahi Arriaga, Azari Garcia, Iorid Arzola, and Hector Duran Chirinos are the La Villtia winners for March.

Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District is hosting its dyslexia parent education program on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the Carrollton Room of the Educational Services Division Complex (Building B) located at 1820 Pearl Street, Carrollton, TX 75006.

Please plan to spend approximately one hour learning about the needs of dyslexia students and how these needs are addressed in the classroom.

The directors of English language arts and reading, invite you, your students, and staffs to join us for CFB’s third annual African American Read-In, which will be held at Barbara Bush Middle School on Tuesday, February 6, at 6:00 p.m. Please bring one of your favorite selections written by an African American author to read or perform at this event.

We are joining the National Council of Teachers of English, its Black Caucus, and others by hosting this literary event during Black History Month. It will be our pleasure to add your name to this list of readers for the National African American Read-In, the nation’s first and oldest event dedicated to diversity in literature.

For the 2018-2019 school year, CFBISD will provide its own transportation services. The District will no longer use Dallas County Schools for transportation. CFBISD is in the process of hiring drivers and monitors as well as establishing routes for the school year.
