The fourth annual International Baccalaureate (IB) International Night was held at Barbara Bush Middle School on Wednesday, April 12th. All four of CFB’s IB World Schools participated in this evening of learning about our diverse cultures.
ESL students and their parents from Barbara Bush hosted a station about their country and shared small bites of native foods. The Primary Years Programme teachers from Las Colinas Elementary helped students to make maracas, while the Good Elementary brought Chinese yoyos to play with and Folklorico dancers to perform. The IB Diploma Candidates from Ranchview High School helped children learn some Spanish and French , while the choirs from Las Colinas, Barbara Bush and Ranchview all sang together on a special piece of music.
We appreciate all of these groups, in addition to the orchestra students and theater students, for supporting this night of community sharing and learning.
CFBISD sits down with Creekview High School Counselor Stacy Lovett as she discusses how school counselors make an impact on the lives of students. Counselors play a vital role in the success of all students. Thank you for all you do.
As part of our International Baccalaureate Program, Good Elementary will celebrate the Chinese New Year on January 31, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.

Bernie Ponzio and her golden retriever therapy dog, Hopalong Cassidy, live in Grand Prairie and travel around to different locations to provide support and comfort to people of all ages. Cassidy was born without a heartbeat, but was able to be brought back to life with CPR from vets at Texas A&M. The breeder wanted to put Cassidy down because he was born without a front right paw. Without hesitation, Bernie adopted Cassidy and trained him to be a therapy dog. Good Elementary was lucky enough to get to meet Bernie & Cassidy.
Cassidy has now learned to walk with a prosthetic leg. Bernie uses Cassidy as a platform to reach out to students with disabilities, special needs, or those that feel they don’t quite fit in. Bernie says that Cassidy will go to schools and help students who have trouble reading and will sit and listen to them read. Cassidy is the sweetest dog and our students and staff could not get enough of him!
Thank you for visiting Good Elementary, Bernie & Cassidy!
CFBISD is thankful to have a partners like Weekend Back Packs and Metrocrest Social Services which provides take home weekend snacks for our students in need. At the end of every week,
children from several of our campuses are given a backpack full of kid-friendly, shelf-stable foods and a backpack to take them home in. The backpacks are provided by the Weekend Back Packs organization and the food is provided by Metrocrest Social Services. This program is completely free to schools and is provided by the Metrocrest Services at no cost to the students.
Students at Good Elementary, Blanton Elementary, Riverchase Elementary, LaVillita Elelmentary, McCoy Elementary, McWhorter Elementary and Furneaux Elementary are enrolled in the WBP program through a referral. Any faculty or staff member can refer a student whom they think is chronically hungry or food insecure. Once on the program, each student receives a backpack full of food every Friday of the school year. They are also able to receive extra sacks of food for younger siblings at home.
The sack of food that each child receives weekly contains shelf-stable, kid-friendly items. All of these items can be opened easily by a child, and they do not require refrigeration or heating. The WBP program strives to provide a high amount of nutrition in each backpack, and it is currently meeting approximately 60% of the weekend nutritional needs for each child in the program. Food 4 Kids supplies participating schools with nutritious, kid-friendly, self-serve food designed to fill a backpack and feed a child over the weekend during the school year.
The WBP program, which kicked off its first school year as a North Texas Food Bank program ( Food 4 Kids) in the spring of 2004, has expanded to over 350 schools in 11 counties throughout North Texas. Last year, the program served up to 11,000 children a week, with plans to continue expanding the program during the upcoming school years.
On Jan. 13, CFB held its second annual Spanish Spelling Bee.

We are excited to announce that Happy State Bank will be partnering with Good Elementary this school year. The purpose of this partnership is to help educate children in banking, teaching them how to make a deposit and keep track of how much money they have in a bank account. Students will be able to open a bank account and deposit money in that account once a month. Older students will act as employees of the bank, supervised by adult Happy State Bank employees. They will go through an application and interview process to be hired at the Kids Bank here at Good Elementary. For more information about his great opportunity for our students, please visit https://www.happybank.com/kids-bank.php.
