Newman Smith Orchestra UIL Results

Newman Smith Students Earn Superior Ratings in Competition

On Monday, March 27th, Newman Smith Orchestra students took part in UIL solo and ensemble contest at Creekview High School.  Newman Smith had the most entries in our region.  All students from Newman Smith who participated received superior or excellent ratings from the judges. 38 of the 43 solos and ensembles received superior (highest) ratings.

9 students also qualified for state solo and ensemble contest!

Barbara Bush Middle School Choir UIL Results

Barbara Bush Middle School Choir students had a great two days at the UIL Competition. All of the Choir represented Barbara Bush extremely well in concert and in sight-reading. Both groups received the highest ratings possible: Superior (I) scores from all of their judges. SWEEPSTAKES trophies for both! Reflections Results from Texas PTA

 Texas PTA received 1,027 entries for state-level judging, and awarded nearly 500 students. Overall Award of Excellence recipients advance to National PTA judging and their results will be announced in June. R.L. Turner Orchestra UIL Region 31 Results

UIL Region 31 Results

On Saturday, March 25th, the RLT Orchestra had 19 entries in the UIL Region 31 Orchestra Solo and Ensemble Contest at Creekview High School. Of those 19 entries, 15 students came home with medals for superior performances. Newman Smith Wins One-Act Play Bi-District

Congratulations to the Newman Smith One-Act Play Cast!

The group competing at the UIL Bi-District One-Act Play Contest Thursday earned a FIRST place finish advancing to Area Competition next month.  The cast, composed of Ariana Pleasure, Cassidy Fox, Joy Walden, Sarah Babick, Ben Stegmair, Jesus Mitchell, Ashad Zuberi, Rahjon Singleton, Eric Talamantes, Matthew Holden, Christina Hollie, Nicole Wedesky and Lauren Rangel were outstanding in performing scenes from “These Shining Lives” by Melanie Marnich.

Running Crew members are: Yanelly Vargas, Julien Tagnon, Elias Gomez, Rory Manley, and Courtney Ashwood.

Alternates are: Anaiya Moran, Karla Camacho, Edgar Palacios, and Alec Eoff.

Newman Smith will compete in Area Competition April 1 at Plano West High School at 4 p.m.

NSHS Theatre Directors are Tyler Brodess and Abby Kraemer.

McKamy Ensemble to Perform at the National Orff-Schulwerk Association Convention

McKamy Ensemble Chosen by the American Orff-Schulwerk Association

The McKamy Orff Ensemble have been selected to perform at the National Orff-Schulwerk Association Conventio, which will be held in Fort Worth on November 11 at 2:30 P.M.  Under the direction of Billy Ferguson, they will perform for approximately 25 minutes.  This is a national honor that is highly sought after by many across the nation.  Mr. Ferguson and his students face an exciting challenge as they prepare for their November performance, but their concert will be one of the highlights of the conference.  Congratulations to Billy Ferguson and all of the McKamy Orff Ensemble!

Creekview One-Act Play Advances

On Tuesday, March 7, Creekview’s 2017 One-Act Play “Look Homeward Angel” based on the novel by Thomas Wolfe advanced to the district level of competition.

Central Elementary Students Perform “Pirates” Program

On Tuesday, March 7th, the Central Elementary Choir and the Treble Makers Percussion Ensemble performed their spring Pirates program.

On Tuesday, March 7th,  the Central Elementary Choir and the Treble Makers Percussion Ensemble performed their spring Pirates program.  The Central music program consists of 100 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.  Central Choir includes 95 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students, and the Treble Makers Percussion Ensemble consists of fifteen 4th and 5th grade students selected through audition.  Many students are involved in both ensembles at Central and dedicate a great deal of time to their practices.  They performed and provided great, fun-filled entertainment for their audience.  Miss Troutman is incredibly proud of the students’ hard work and dedication and is already in planning stages for next year’s performances!

14 Newman Smith HS Dance 1 students were selected to participate in the Dance Educator's Assessment of Learning (DEAL) on March 7th, 2017. The goal of DEAL is to provide dance students and their program the opportunity to be evaluated and recognized for their commitment to learning proper dance technique, terminology and performance skills. Smith dancers excelled at the assessment, receiving the highest possible rating. These students did an amazing job representing Newman Smith HS Dance Department and were an excellent showcase of the rigor and high achievement of Fine Arts in CFBISD.
