2018 School Lunch Hero Day

2018 School Lunch Hero Day

2018 School Lunch Hero DayMay 4 is 2018 School Lunch Hero Day. In addition to preparing healthy meals, CFB school nutrition professionals adhere to strict nutrition standards, navigate student food allergies, and offer service with a smile. Our school lunch employees are true heroes. Who needs a cape when you have an apron? While School Nutrition Employee Week is May 7-11,  the sixth annual School Lunch Hero day will be May 4. It is a day to remember and thank nutrition staff. Let CFB know about your favorite Student Nutrition employee. Take a selfie shaking hands, giving a high-five, or just smiling with your favorite lunch hero, using hashtag #cfblunchhero on Facebook or Twitter.

Bush Coding Club Shines

Bush Coding Club Shines

Bush Coding Club ShinesThe Bush Coding Club shines as it is featured in the Dallas Morning News. Nearly 20 students at Barbara Bush Middle School currently participate in the Afterschool Coding Clubs for School Students (ACCESS). The University of Texas at Dallas assigns computer science students each semester to lead the club.

Deyonna Davis, career and technology teacher at Bush and coding club sponsor, stated, “Everyone gets something out of this. Students who don’t have exposure to computers can be around computers while learning the basics, and those who do have that background knowledge can elevate the knowledge they already have.”

Bush Middle School student, Mikey Shands, said he hopes the skills he gained in his coding club last fall will help him become a cartoon illustrator one day. He said he wants to design cartoons on his computer.

Barbara Bush Middle School – December 2017 IB Bulletin

Broncos in Action at Barbara Bush Middle School
The Barbara Bush Bronco Family continues to show their caring side with a fall service project headed up by Student Council.  “Keep Dallas Cozy” is a drive to collect coats and blankets to share with those less fortunate in the DFW area.   Coats and blankets are being collected now in the front office.  You can also donate sweaters, knit hats and gloves.  Keep bringing those in and let’s “Keep Dallas Cozy!”

Trick or Treat for UNICEF
Once again our IB students are helping others through service.  To raise money for UNICEF, students paid $1 to wear a costume on Halloween.  From 3 Blind Mice to Steve Urkel to ET’s helper, many people raised over $200 to send to UNICEF this year.

Tiny Houses in 6th grade Math
IB sixth graders have been collaborating to design and decorate tiny houses.  After learning about area and volume, students used graph paper to design the interior of their own tiny houses.  They calculated the area of various pieces of furniture and then used different materials to decorate their homes.

Success in the One Act Play!
On Friday, Dec. 1, several of our BBMS Broncos participated in the UIL One Act Play competition.  Their performance of “This is a Test” earned them 2nd Place Play among all CFB middle schools.  Jake Hrbacek and Shemaiah Dejorge were named to the All Star Cast, while Keyla was named as Best Technical Crew Member.  Congratulations to the students and to Director Mrs. Kris Henington!

Learner Profile Leaders

The IB Learner Profile are the character traits that we instill in all of our IB world scholars.  When developed together, our students develop their own sense of international mindedness as 21st century global citizens.   Recently, we recognized several students for being Open Minded and for using Inquiry in their learning.  Students enjoyed pizza for lunch, as well as a talk by Ms.Patty Parker, Executive Director of Testing and Accountability for CFBISD.  Students learned how Ms.Parker uses these traits in her personal and professional life.  Congratulations to these Learner Profile Leaders!

Learning in the Makerspace!

Our IB students are engaged in new learning activities in the Makerspace each week!  A variety of materials allows students to tinker, explore and create on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, or on Wednesday afternoons!  Some students make cars, others make arcade games, while others learn about the “insides” of various electronics!
