To promote the healthy habits of eating well and reading, the cafeteria will be giving away a book to a lucky student in each grade every quarter this school year. As students enter their ID numbers during lunch the cashier will see a pop up that states, “BOOK WINNER!” Those lucky students win a book. The September book giveaway is Pete’s A Pizza by William Steig. Blair cafeteria manager, Fred Kidd and two happy book winners show off the winning book. The next Eat, Read, Succeed book will be given away on December 6.

Rosemeade Students Learn Basic Engineering in Egg Drop
Students at Rosemeade Elementary participated in a STEM egg drop competition by building egg-protection landing devices. The Roadrunners were given a problem to solve: protect an egg from a significant drop while using limited materials.
Material restrictions
Students were limited to using plastics, straws, cotton, cardboard, tape, string, glue, rubber bands, and similar materials. They were restricted from using helium balloons, and a host of other materials. Students had to allow for a hatch in which to insert the egg. In addition to bragging rights, students learned from the successes and failures during the egg drop event.
They learned how well certain materials behave under stress and what materials work best in distributing impact and vibration.
The Carrollton Fire Department joined in on the experiment by volunteering to drop the student-made devices from the ladder on their fire engine.

Blair Elementary Celebrates Pinwheels for Peace
On Sep. 24, students at Blair Elementary celebrated Pinwheels for Peace. Each year, on the International Day of Peace, people from around the world create a visual, public statement about peace. Blair is an Imagine Fine Arts Academy, and students showcased their talents in the visual and performing arts for the celebration. Students designed pinwheels that were placed in front of the school. Afterward, students performed songs about peace for parents who came to celebrate with them.

Davis Student Leaves, then Returns to CFB
After he and his parents moved away for a bit, Davis Elementary student, Jeremy Tul, expressed his desire to return to CFB. Jeremy’s parents saw that he was not reaching his full potential in his new school, so they moved back. His little sister started Kindergarten this year at Davis as well. His parents stated that at Davis, Jeremy feels at home and secure – and that he is truly blossoming at Davis, both socially and academically. Jeremy’s current career goal is to be a doctor. CFB Superintendent, Dr. John E. Chapman, visited Davis Elementary to meet Jeremy and to welcome him back.
Do you have a “return to CFB” story you’d like to share? If so, please share it with us using this online form. We’d love to hear from you!
