On March 8, 2019, Polk Middle School students and staff participated in the American Heart Association’s “Hoops For Heart!” Polk Nation surpassed it’s goal and raised $9,475.05. Students engaged in lessons leading up to the event, about the lifesaving research and work done by the American Heart Association to reduce Heart Disease as the # 1 cause of death in our country. Facts about healthy life styles, nutrition and physical activity were also shared.

McCoy Students Take Parents to P.E.
McCoy Elementary students are taking parents to P.E. class to show them the activities and games they have learned. Parents are invited to participate with their children in various activities and games in the gym. Students in CFB learn the importance of fitness in their lives. Whether competing, playing a game, or learning a dance, students are learning which muscle groups they are using and how this positively affects their health.
FBE 4th Graders Learn to Swim
Farmers Branch Elementary 4th graders are learning swimming skills with their teachers and Coach Cluley at the Natatorium. Half of the 4th-grade class has swimming lessons one week, followed by the other half of the class the following week. The Mustangs will show off their skills to parents on Aug. 31.
La Villita Coach Wins Gold Medal at IFAF 2018
La Villita Elementary coach, Vanita Krouch, just took the gold medal at the International Federation of American Football – IFAF 2018 World Championships. Known affectionately as “Coach V” by her students, Krouch represented the United States when she competed at the event in Panama City, Panama Aug. 9-12.

Dallas Stars’ Marty Turco Trains CFB PE Teachers
Marty Turco, a nine-year Goaltender for the Dallas Stars, presented skills and drills to CFBISD physical education teachers at Learn More Achieve More 2018. Turco is currently the Chairman and President of the Dallas Stars Foundation and works directly with school districts to bring a hockey experience to all students. CFBISD is the recipient of more than $50,000.00 worth of grants and physical education equipment from the Stars Foundation.
Full Circle: CFB Graduate Returns to Teach
La Villita Elementary P.E. teacher, Vanita Krouch, returned to her roots after a professional athletic career. A U.S. Flag and Touch Football champion quarterback, Ms. Krouch expresses her joy in getting elementary students excited about staying fit and having an attitude of good sportsmanship. Krouch began her education at Carrollton Elementary, then went to Perry Middle School, and graduated from R. L. Turner High School. She then attended Southern Methodist University on a full scholarship. She began her love of sports in 3rd grade. Encouraged by coaches at CFB, sports remained an important facet of her life, and ultimately a career path.
Fun and Fitness at Exploration Academy
Students attending Exploration Academy at Perry Middle School this summer have the option to take two enrichment classes in their areas of interest. Students in Mr. Castillo’s “Fun and Fitness” class have the opportunity to participate in athletic skill development, lead-up games, various sports, and individual and team sports. Students will be exposed to lifelong physical activities which will carry over as they grow. The class promotes the spirit of cooperation, leadership, fair play, and friendly competition with an emphasis on fun. Exploration Academy classes will continue through June 29.
Elks Grant Heart Challenge Course to Furneaux
Furneaux Elementary was the first of twenty-six (26) elementary schools to begin teaching The Heart Challenge Course to its students. Carrollton-Farmers Branch Elementary Physical Education Department was the recipient of a $4,000 grant from the Irving Elks Lodge during the 2017-2018 school year. The Irving Elks combined a $2500 Gratitude Grant and a $1500 Anniversary Grant in order to purchase this equipment for CFB Elementary PE classes for use during the school year. The obstacle course that represents the four chambers of the heart and teaches students how blood circulates through the body will rotate among all elementary schools beginning in the fall of 2018.
Perry Eagles Learn Life-Saving Skills
Perry Eagles learn life-saving skills, thanks to the Carrollton Fire Department. Members of the City of Carrollton Fire-Rescue team visited DeWitt Perry Middle School, providing demos to 200 students on skills that could one day save the life of a loved one or a stranger. Students were able to utilize CPR manikins, also known as “Resusci Anne” manikins, to learn how to do proper chest compressions to resuscitate an individual whose heart has stopped. Skills such as checking the airway, the Heimlich maneuver for choking victims, and how to perform CPR on an infant were demonstrated.
