Davis Student Leaves, then Returns to CFB

After he and his parents moved away for a bit, Davis Elementary student, Jeremy Tul, expressed his desire to return to CFB. Jeremy’s parents saw that he was not reaching his full potential in his new school, so they moved back. His little sister started Kindergarten this year at Davis as well. His parents stated that at Davis, Jeremy feels at home and secure – and that he is truly blossoming at Davis, both socially and academically. Jeremy’s current career goal is to be a doctor. CFB Superintendent, Dr. John E. Chapman, visited Davis Elementary to meet Jeremy and to welcome him back.

Do you have a “return to CFB” story you’d like to share? If so, please share it with us using this online form. We’d love to hear from you!

Creekview Mock Trial Competes in Atlanta

The Creekview High School Mock Trial team competed at the Empire Mock Trial Tournament in Atlanta, GA. In 4 rounds, over the course of 2 days, students presented both the prosecution and defense sides in a criminal case. The case involved a confrontation between a white supremacist speaker at a public university and a counter-protester. Students also argued a pre-trial motion. The motion concerned whether, under the first amendment, the university could charge a disproportionate security fee to the speaker based upon a conclusion that his speech could incite violence.

Awards

Law Academy President Joanna Boyer, in her first-ever Mock Trial Tournament, earned a Top Attorney Award. Mock Trial Captain Jazmin Torres earned a Top Witness Award for her portrayal of crane operator Joey Amber. Amber was a former classmate of the defendant and eyewitness to the assault. Torres maintained a Boston accent for the duration of the tournament.

CHS Law Academy Students Meet Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor

Creekview High School Law Academy students Joanna Boyer and Makaylia Askew just returned from a whirlwind trip to New York City. The trip was their prize for winning the Harlan Institute/ConSource Virtual Supreme Court Competition last year. At the competition, one of the finals judges was current Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The students were able to attend a Constitution Day Celebration featuring a Q & A with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and they went backstage to meet her in person.

Boyer and Askew then were honored and gave a speech at the ConSource/iCivics Constitution Day gala dinner. The dinner also honored Wells Fargo lead attorney and in-house counsel, C. Allen Parker. During the trip, the Law Academy students attended two Broadway shows and visited the World Trade Center memorial and Statue of Liberty. Fundraiser – Ford Drive One for Your School

Good afternoon, Turner Lions!  We have a great opportunity coming up for our clubs and organizations to earn some money through the Ford “Drive One For Your School” fundraiser.  On October 4th, we will have brand new Ford vehicles here, available for tests drives, from 9:30am to 5:30pm.  If we can schedule 300 test drives, we can earn a total of $8000 for our campus.  $3000 has been earmarked for prom costs, which means there is $5000 up for grabs for your clubs or organizations.  This is where you come in:

  • Each club/organization will receive funds based on the number of test drives it can generate.
  • The club/organization with the most test drives will win an extra $500.
  • Every club/organization with at least 20 test drives will receive an extra $200
  • Every club/organization with at least 10 test drives will receive an extra $100

You can share this post with your booster club president and members, to parent and community supporters, to your family and friends, to anyone that you believe might be willing to come and test drive a new Ford.  They can sign up for a time slot through the link below to Sign Up Genius.  All test drivers must be 18 and have a valid license and insurance.  The test drives will take about 5 minutes.  When each test driver fills out the form for their test drive, they will indicate which club or organization they are supporting on the top of the form.
