The Perry Robotics Club traveled to Norman, Oklahoma this past weekend (March 25th) to compete in the multi-state Oklahoma Botball regional competition. Botball is an extremely challenging autonomous robotics competition for middle school and high school students.  There are no division lines and middle school students must compete directly against high school students. The students have nearly 2 1/2 months to design, build, program, document and test up to two robots to compete in a very challenging competition. The robots the students build are 100% autonomous (no remote control) and are programmed by the students in a real-world programming language called “C”.
The competition is divided into three parts: seeding rounds, double elimination and a documentation and oral presentation. These scores are combined to get a team’s overall score. DeWitt Perry sent 4 teams including a team composed exclusively of Perry alumni from Turner and Creekview called “Perry 2.0”.
When the dust settled, of the top 5 teams (out of 48), 3 were from CFBISD. Awards won include:
1st place alliance competition
2nd place overall
4th place overall
5th place overall
2nd place seeding competition
3rd place seeding competition
5th place seeding competition
4th place double elimination
Judges choice for best school spirtt
Judges choice for outstanding community outreach
Judges for best commented code
Highest seeding scores of the day
The kids have worked for nearly three months after school, every weekend and gave up their Spring break to come in and work on world dominating robots. The club would like to thank the CFB Association for the Gifted and Talented, Kathryn Schaeffer who is the executive director of CFBISD Advanced Academic Services and Mrs. Asheley Brown the principal of DeWitt Perry Middle School for their support of our organization.

Susan Kelly represents many things to us in our district. She is the Director of Elementary Language Arts, a guided reading guru and she is also a Leverage Leadership Coach.  She is constantly researching the latest techniques and strategies and helps implement them in classrooms.  Everything she does has a definite purpose to promote teacher growth so that we can boost student achievement by preparing them with a strong foundation in literacy.  Landry Elementary would like to honor her work, her success and her leadership in our district. Please join Landry Elementary in celebrating Susan Kelly!

On Mar. 23, the CFBISD All-Stars competed in the 2017 Special Olympics at Standridge Stadium. Athletes from several North Texas school districts made the journey to Standridge to participate in the games. Representatives from Congressman Kenny Marchant’s office; Carrollton Mayor, Matthew Marchant; Superintendent, Dr. Bobby Burns; and Miss Texas, Caroline Carothers spoke at the event.
While the wind was very gusty on an otherwise beautiful day, the athletes followed the Special Olympics motto:Â Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.
