Perry Student Named National Geographic Bee Champion

DeWitt Perry 8th Grader Named National Geographic Bee Champion

National Geographic Bee ChampionPerry Middle School student, Pranay Varada, has been named Champion of the National Geographic Bee. For the second year in a row, Varada took the state championship in the Bee. On May 17, Varada  took top honors at the 29th annual competition in Washington, D.C.

In 2016, Varada took an admirable 6th place. As the 2017 National Geographic Bee champion, Varada earned a $50,000 scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands. While it was his second trip to the nationals, this was not his second foray into this competition. In fourth grade, he took 2nd place in the state competition.

Perry 8th Grader is State Geography Bee Winner

For the second year in a row, Perry Middle School student, Pranay Varada, became the Texas Geography Bee winner. Next, the CFB 8th grader will head to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National Geographic Bee this May.  His second time to take the state title, Varada took 6th place in the 2016 national competition. Varada, whose favorite school subject is math, states he has no secrets concerning his wins. Geography comes naturally to the middle schooler, who also loves to compose music.
