AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a global nonprofit organization. The mission statement of AVID is to “close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society”. AVID is an elective class offered to students that meet the criteria for placement in the AVID program. A candidate for the AVID classroom is a student with college potential with support, a mid-range GPA and is the first in their family to pursue a college education.
The AVID program provides college tutors for in class group tutorials twice a week, bi-weekly guest speakers and field trips to visit area colleges throughout the year. Students should contact their counselor if they are interesting in being considered for placement in the AVID program.
