Dear Parent or Guardian:
Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD Health Services has peak flow meters for use in monitoring airflow through the airways of our asthmatic students. With the use of a peak flow meter, one may objectively obtain values of lung function which, when taken with a brief history, vital signs and observation, can more accurately portray the condition of the student.
Initially, a baseline or “usual” peak airflow should be determined by the physician to compare with readings that could be obtained before and after therapy or exercise and during times of distress. Drops or improvement in expected airflow may then be used to guide decisions.
The data we collect may also be used to help the student gain a better understanding of prevention, control and management of this condition. In addition, by sharing this information with you and/or the physician, we hope to achieve better coordination of therapy between the school and home.
We can effectively utilize the peak flow meter for your student if you and your physician will provide the information below.
