About Our School – Title I
- FBE is a TITLE I campus. What is a Title 1 School?
- Most educators, parents and community members have heard the term Title 1 School. Being able to answer what is a Title 1 school as established by the U.S. Department of Education, however, is more difficult. Title 1 is the nation’s oldest and largest federally funded program, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Annually, it provides over $7 billion to school systems across the country for students at risk of failure and living at or near poverty.
Arrival Procedures
- Students are invited into the building at 7:00 am.
- Students may eat breakfast in the cafeteria until 7:25 or go directly to the gym.
- At 7:30, all students walk to their classrooms and instructional activities begin.
- Thank you for bringing your child to school by 7:30 every day!
Tardies
- If a child arrives at school late, they must check in at the office and will receive a tardy for that day.
- Attendance is taken in the classroom at 9:00 a.m. and reported at 10:00 a.m.
Attendance
- “In accordance with the state law, students must be in attendance for at least 90% of the days of the school year to be considered for promotion to the next grade level. Parents must send a note upon return to school.”
- If your student is absent, please send a note to the office the following day describing the reason for the absence.
- An email to your child’s teacher is also an acceptable form of written documentation.
- If there is a persistent attendance issue, the office staff may conduct a home visit.
Dismissal Procedures
- School dismisses at 2:55 pm.
- The District’s Code of Conduct states that all students must be picked up no later than 20 minutes after dismissal.
- There will be no supervision after 3:15 pm.
- Please make sure your child/children know how they will be picked up from school everyday i.e. car rider, walker, van rider. This ensures your child will be at the correct “pick-up” spot after school.
- Please help us to keep everyone safe by obeying all traffic laws.
Early Dismissal
- In order to maximize instruction time, students will not be released or called from their classroom after 2:30 pm.
- If you have to pick up your child early from school, please do so by 2:25 pm.
- If you pick up your child early for a doctor or dentist appointment, you are required to bring a note from the doctor/dentist to the office the next day.
Coming to Visit for Lunch?
- Monday through Thursday your child(ren) will develop his/her social skills by eating with his/her peers.
- If you would like to eat lunch with your child(ren), please visit during lunch on the designated Fridays.
- Please sign in at the office to receive a visitor’s badge.
- Be prepared to show your ID
General Information
- Birthdays
- Students receive a special pencil and birthday ribbon from the principal.
- Parents may bring party favors to be given to your child’s classmates (pencils, stickers, etc.) by the teacher if you choose.
- Please do not send candy, food, or drink items.
- These party favors must be brought to the office by a parent by 2:15 p.m.
- The office staff will deliver them within 20 minutes before dismissal (2:35).
- Arrangements must be made in advance with the classroom teacher.
- Students receive a special pencil and birthday ribbon from the principal.
- Book Return
- Parents are responsible for all books not returned to school including textbooks, library books, and guided reading books. All library books must be returned in order to check out a new book. If a guided reading library book is lost, the parent is responsible for a $10 fee toward replacing the set.
PTA – Want to be Involved?
- Please join the FBE PTA for $6 per family.
- If you are interested in serving on the FBE PTA Board, please let your child’s teacher know.
- PTA Board meetings are held once a month at 5:30 prior to the 7:00 General PTA meeting. Please come and join us!
Volunteers
- To be a volunteer in any capacity, you must have complete a Volunteer Background Check each year. Complete a Background Check Here
- Parents will not be allowed to chaperone FBE students on a field trip if the parent’s name is not on the district’s approved volunteer list at least 2 weeks before the scheduled
field trip.
Conferences
- We will have parent conferences in October to inform you of your child’s academic progress and behavior
- Feel free to contact each teacher for additional conferences as needed.
Character Education
- FBE Elementary has implemented “R-Time” into each teacher’s weekly lesson plans.
- R-Time is a program designed to address the following:
- Manners/etiquette
- Building positive relationships
- Cooperation
- Goal Setting
- Bullying

Discipline
- Respectful behavior, which enhances learning, is our focus at FBE.
- Teachers have developed a discipline plan providing a clear set of steps for each student to follow on a daily basis.
FBE Uniform Policy
- Uniforms must meet all C-FB ISD dress code standards.
- The uniform at FBE is as follows:
- Sweaters, Jackets, Sweatshirts: Solid colors except FBE sweatshirts or FBE jackets
- Red, White, and Navy Blue
- Tops: Polo style with long or short sleeves in
- Red, White, and Navy Blue
- Bottoms: Dockers style pants, walking shorts, pleated skirts, skorts, jumpers in
- Brown Khaki and Navy Blue
- Fridays: If students wear an FBE spirit shirt, they may wear jeans – otherwise, they wear a uniform.
- No spiky hairstyles, Mohawks, “dinosaurs,” or tails.
- Sweaters, Jackets, Sweatshirts: Solid colors except FBE sweatshirts or FBE jackets

Grading Policy
We are on a 9 week grading period. You will receive a report card four times a year and a progress report four times a year.
- The teacher will notify the parent if your child is failing or working below level.
- You may also see your child’s academic progress by setting up an account through Parent Self Serve.
- Formative – 25% of average
- Summative – 75% of average
- Summative assignments not submitted by the due date will be recorded as INC (incomplete) and will receive a penalty of one letter grade (-10 points) when submitted.
- If the assignment is not submitted within five school days of the due date, the INC will be changed to a zero.
- Reassessment Procedures for Summative Assignments (75%)
- Students who fail (69 or lower) a summative assessment shall be reassessed.
- If a student receives a 70-79 on a summative, he/she has the opportunity to be reassessed.
- On a summative reassessment, the teacher shall record the higher of the two grades up to an 80.
- All formative assignments MUST be completed prior to the reassessment.
- The student will be required to participate in additional learning opportunities.
- The teacher will select the time for the reassessment.
- The reassessment should occur within 15 school days.
STAAR State Assessment
- The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge & Skills (TAKS) beginning in spring 2012.
- The STAAR program at grades 3-8 assesses:
- 3rd-Reading, Math
- 4th Reading, Math, Writing
- 5th Reading, Math, Science
- STAAR scores will be reported by TEA in Summer 2018 – except for 5th Reading and 5th Math (April 2018)
- Significantly more rigorous (difficult)
- Questions are more complex and require more thinking
- Questions may have multiple steps
- Test will be longer
- More test items
- Vertically aligned to college readiness
- Timed test (4 hour limit)
