R.L. Turner Teacher & Student Receive Lamar Award of Excellence

2017 14th District MWSA Lamar Awards

On Wednesday, March 29th, the Masonic Lodge of Dallas Texas came together to honor public education, and those dedicated to it in the 2017 Lamar Awards.  One of R.L. Turner’s very own educators, Carolyn Lane, received the Lamar Award of Excellence.  Also receiving the award was R.L. Turner student, Emely Pena.  The Lamar Award of Excellence is awarded to students and educators in recognition of outstanding personal achievement in academics, citizenship, community service, or sports.  The award ceremony was held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Downtown Dallas.

Creekview Golfer Wins Third Straight District Title

Way to go Mustangs! CFB is Proud of you!

Creekview Golfer Wins Third Straight District Title

Congrats to Kyle Cox who fired rounds of 71-70 to win the district title by two shots. On Tuesday, April 4th, Kyle made three birdies and an eagle.  A remarkable round on a day with intense pressure.

As a team, we finished low CFBISD school and 8th overall. Caydon Moseley, Cameron Chopra, Brendan Stout, and Rhys Livingston battled hard for two days in fierce winds and can be proud of their efforts.

Kyle will compete at Regionals April 26-27 in Rockwall.

Way to go Mustangs! CFBISD is proud of you!

Newman Smith High School – The Value of a Vote, Human Rights Forum

The Human Rights Forum was chosen by the World Affairs Council of DFW, to host a guest speaker at our school on April 12th.  Because of our close and unique relationship with the WAC, we would love to have at least 50 attendees at this speaking event, if not more. To help us reach our goal of 50+ people to actively participate in this event, we are reaching out to you to personally invite students who would be interested. We will have a sign-in sheet as proof of attendance.  The sponsored speaker we will be hosting is Professor Jeff Engel at SMU (https://www.smu.edu/News/Experts/Jeffrey-Engel), who will speaking about civics, American government, and specifically, "the value of a vote."  We hope to see you and your students next Wednesday after school on April 12th in NW117!

Creekview Students Honored at Dallas Museum of Art

On March 29th, Creekview High school students Taskeen Zehra, Violet smith and Shaun Houpy were honored at a reception in their honor at The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) for their art work in the Young Masters Invitational.    All registered grant high school AP fine arts students who are currently enrolled (2016-17) or who were formerly enrolled (2014-16) in the O'Donnell Foundation incentive program and passed the College Board AP fine arts exam(s) were invited to submit the following works for the exhibition:    AP Art History – an original essay in response to a work in the DMA’s permanent collection AP Music Theory – an original four minute composition AP Studio Art – an original two-dimensional or three-dimensional art work Sixty-five works were selected from 896 submissions for the 2017 Dallas Museum of Art AP fine arts exhibition, February 25-April 16, Concourse Gallery.  Congratulations to our Creekview students!

Furneaux Students Participate in Healthy Lifestyles Art Contest

Furneaux Elementary Participate in Art Contest

On Monday, March 27th, CFBISD held an art competition in order to celebrate Healthy Lifestyles, Mind, Body and Spirit.  3rd-12th grade were able to participate in this competition. An art exhibit and awards were planned at the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center to give friends, family and the community an opportunity to appreciate all entries and student artists.

Two Furneaux Elementary students participated in this competition.  Congratulations to future artists, Kaylee and Christy Dang for representing Furneaux in the Healthy Lifestyles Art Contest!

Ranchview Boys Soccer Team Advances in State Playoffs

Ranchview Boys Heading to UIL Playoffs

Congratulations to the Ranchview Wolves on their impressive win from last Friday night to advance them into the next round of the UIL State Soccer Playoffs!

Next round for the Boys is Regional Quarter Finals.

Here is the playoff information:

Ranchview (home team) will take on Kaufman (visiting team) on Tuesday April 4th (tomorrow) at 7:30 p.m. at the Desoto Eagle Stadium located at 600 Eagle Drive, Desoto, Texas 75115. Exit west off I-35 at Belt Line Rd., to Westmoreland south, then to Eagle Dr. Stadium located at the Ben Dial Athletic Complex.

Ticket prices: $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.
The 10-4A Administrator Pass will be accepted.

Good Luck to Coach Jarred Garcia and his team of Wolves.  You all have made CFBISD very proud!

Newman Smith’s Dance Team Performs at Senior Living Center

Gallery in Motion is the Newman Smith High Schools' advance performing company. Students are selected through a rigorous audition process each spring. On Tuesday, March 28th, Gallery in Motion performed dances from around the world at Lakeview at Josey Ranch Senior Living Center. They showcased dances from Brazil, Japan and America. The residents enjoyed the lively performances and it was a great way to connect the community with the Fine Arts at Newman Smith!

Newman Smith Orchestra UIL Results

Newman Smith Students Earn Superior Ratings in Competition

On Monday, March 27th, Newman Smith Orchestra students took part in UIL solo and ensemble contest at Creekview High School.  Newman Smith had the most entries in our region.  All students from Newman Smith who participated received superior or excellent ratings from the judges. 38 of the 43 solos and ensembles received superior (highest) ratings.

9 students also qualified for state solo and ensemble contest!
