Country Place Elementary and Kent Elementary schools were both recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools by the US Department of Education in November.
Country Place Participates in Hour of Code
All grades, K-5, will particpate in a computer programming intiative called “The Hour of Code” by the end of January. The idea is to introduce students to the skills involved with computer programming. Though it’s not the offial week for Hour of Code, students are really enjoying working on these skills!

Scratch— http://scratch.mit.edu web based. A drag and drop program that allows you to create your own interactive stories, games, and animations.
Lightbot— http://lightbot.com/hocflash.html web based. Program the robot to light up all of the blue squares. Light bot has an app too. 🙂
Tynker—app , drag and drop. Kids build fun programs by connecting LEGO®-like visual code blocks. Also a websitetoo. Click here to check it out!
Bee-bot—app, for young children. Program a robot to move through sequences of forwards, backwards, left and right 90 degree turns.
Daisy the Dinosaur– app, drag and drop. Make Daisy the dinosaur move at your command by designing your own program
Kodable—app, award-winning drag and drop program. Teaches kids the basics of programming language with a fun game moving a fuzzy character through different levels.
Hopscotch–app, for older students. Drag and drop blocks of code to create your own program.
Cargo-bot—app, very challenging. A puzzle game where you teach a robot how to move crates.
A.l.e.x.—app , for older students. Program the robot A.L.E.X. with a sequence of commands to get through each level from start to finish.
Cato’s Hike—app. Help Cato discover the rules in a new universe by writing a program to help him overcome obstacles.
Country Place Destination Imagination (DI) Team Advances to State
The Country Place Elementary DI Team won first place at Regionals and is moving onto State on April 2. The team consists of 4th graders: Olivia Kerr, Jaclyn Deckerd, Olivia Brewer, Quentin Maese, Reid Sherman, Scotty Brady, and Tre Macias.
Country Place hosted an excellent Open House
Tuesday, March 1st was officially Country Place Elementary Day! In celebration of the Blue Ribbon Award, the city of Carrollton proclaimed March 1, 2016 as Country Place Elementary Day. This date was also the night for the Blue Ribbon/Open House. It was a great night enjoyed by the community, staff, students, and families. We were so glad so many could attend.
Country Place DI Team Wins State
The Country Place Elementary DI Team takes 1st place at Texas State Destination Imagination Tournament. After achieving honors for creativity, teamwork and innovation at the Regional Destination Imagination Tournament in February, the team went on to the Texas State DI Tournament held April 1-2 at Anna High School. The team placed 1st out of 23 teams in their challenge and now have earned the right to compete and represent Texas in Destination Imagination’s Global Finals, the world’s largest celebration of student creativity, to be held May 25-28 in Knoxville, Tennessee at the University of Tennessee.
Team members include: Scotty Brady, Olivia Brewer, Jaclyn, Dercherd, Olivia Ker, Tre Macias, Quentin Maece and Reid Sherman. The team is managed by parent, Abbie Sherman. They will compete with other teams in Close Encounters, one of seven, open-ended challenges that require students to apply science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills, in addition to their talents in improvisation, theater arts, writing, project management, communication, innovation, teamwork, community service and social entrepreneurship.
Destination Imagination has had a positive impact on more than 1.5 million students who have taken part in its acclaimed Challenge program. This year, 150,000 students have participated in tournaments throughout the U.S. and 30 countries in hopes of earning a spot at the Global Finals competition in May. Country Place Elementary is among more than 8,000 students representing more than 1,400 teams that will advance to Global Finals. Destination Imagination program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity. Quantitative reasoning, collaborative problem solving, risk taking, collaboration, presentations and thinking on your feet are some of the important skills learned in the program. Healthy, Summer Meals for Kids Provided by Texas Department of Agriculture
The Summer Food Service Program serves healthy meals to children 18 and younger. Meal sites include schools, parks, city recreational centers and libraries in communities across the state. Participants enjoy meals without any registration or identification requirements. Kids simply show up to receive a healthy meal at no cost.
