On Sep. 20, Tech Titans visited CFB to encourage 8th-grade girls to consider a future in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Math (STEM). Tech Titans is a forum that leverages the regional technology community to collaborate, share and inspire creative thinking that fuels tomorrow’s innovations. Eighth-grade girls from Blalack, Bush, Field, Long, Perry, and Polk Middle Schools, visited Smith High School for the opportunity to hear from the Tech Titans forum and to posit questions to the attendees. Employees from Ericsson, Fujitsu, Thomson Reuters, and others were on hand to share their experiences as women in the technology field.

 Volleyball

The 7th grade Lady Panthers went to Field Middle School to compete in their season opener.

7th B Team:  The B team came out victorious against the Lady Vikings winning 2 out of the 3 sets played. The girls secured their win with great hustle and serves. The outstanding players were J’Andrea Ickom and Allison Alas.

7th A Team:  The A team took Field to three sets, but lost the final set 24-26. They played extremely hard and fought to the very last match. Their effort was outstanding.  The outstanding players were Zakiah Kates and Haley Hudson.

What an amazing night our girls had last night. My ears are still ringing from the excitement and Panther pride shown in support of our girls in the Field MS Gym.

8th B Team:  The B Team stepped on the court to play with heart tonight and it showed through both games.  They had good back court passing that led to several great plays. They are learning their way around the court and were more confident as they played Thursday night.  Several on the team contributed with excellent serving such as Katelyn Ardiles, and Akayla Bolden. Holding the net strong all night was Inaya Lawson as a formidable Center Hitter/blocker.    The B Team ended a drought and celebrated a victory taking the match in two games. 21-25 and  25-22.

8th A Team:  The A Team had a hard fought night. Their passing in the back court is getting better and better to set up plays at the net.  The Lady Panthers kept both games extremely close bringing the games into a tie situation multiple times thought the night. Zenai Jethroe helped the team with some great back court hitting and blocks at the net.  Marisa Bolden also contributed to her teams cause with an outstanding attack. All the girls worked extremely hard but were unable to pull out the victory in the end.  27-25 and 25-16

Football

The 7th grade Panthers kicked off their season going to Field Middle School to take on the Vikings.

7th B Team: The boys came out with outstanding energy and excitement. They battled through tough weather conditions and came out on top with a victory 18-0. Their effort and hard work paid off in a big way. The most outstanding player was Ayden Barrington who had 3 rushing touchdowns and had over 20 tackles. Caiden Napper had some tough runs and played with awesome effort. It was an overall team effort.

7th A Team: The A team was battled tested and had to with stand the elements to come away with a victory in the last minute of the game to win 8-0 over the Vikings. The players showed awesome effort and left everything they had on the field. Outstanding players of the game were Brandon Patterson with outstanding effort on both sides of the ball, Trevon Wright had the game winning touchdown run and Jordan Jones-Josenberger battled the elements of getting snaps at the quarterback position and came up with some huge plays on the last drive to help get the victory. It was an overall team effort.

8th A Team: The 8th grade football team played an outstanding game and came away victorious over Field 32-8. They left everything they had on the field and played with tremendous attitude and effort. We had several of our athletes play extremely well and make some awesome plays. Jamel Jones- Josenberger scored on the opening kick-off to set the tone for the game and then scored another rushing Touchdown later in the game. He also had fumble recovery on defense. Christian Frye played really well on both sides of the ball scoring a rushing touchdown and played really well on defense as well. CFB Students Attend 2018 Lone Star Leadership Academy Camps

CFB Students Attend 2018 Lone Star Leadership Academy CampsSeven students from CFBISD were among those selected from across the state to attend the 2018 Lone Star Leadership Academy Camps. One thousand, one hundred twenty-one outstanding 4th-8th graders participated in Education in Action’s summer 2018 Lone Star Leadership Academy camps. Additionally, 24 student alumni returned to serve in a leadership role as youth facilitators. These young leaders were selected for the Academy camps based on demonstrated academic success and leadership ability. Additionally, they received an educator recommendation, and demonstrated involvement in school/community activities. The participating students, representing communities across Texas, traveled to Dallas/Fort Worth (4th, 5th & 6th graders), Austin/San Antonio (5th, 6th & 7th graders), and Houston/Galveston (6th, 7th & 8thgraders) to take part in the camps.

During the weeklong camps, the students developed leadership skills while learning about the state of Texas. Participants experienced what they are learning in school through visits to notable and historically significant Texas sites.

Where the camps are held

Venues included places such as the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, and the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. Other locales include the offices of participants’ state legislators at the Texas State Capitol, the Supreme Court of Texas, bat watching on the Lone Star Riverboat, and The Alamo and more. In addition, professionals at sites visited introduced students to a wide variety of unique careers during each camp.

The Lone Star Leadership Academy experience provides a unique opportunity for outstanding students to learn about Texas leaders and what it means to be from the Lone Star State. Participants discuss what they learn, complete problem solving and decision-making simulations, exercise creativity, and practice presentation skills in Leadership Groups. In addition, participants have fun meeting other students and making new friends while adding to their resume of academic achievements.

About the organization

Education in Action is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people to be informed and active leaders in their communities. Students involved in student government and service organizations are especially good candidates for the camps. Educators are invited to nominate their outstanding 4th-8th graders for Lone Star Leadership Academy camps online at www.educationinaction.org/nominate. Adult/student ratio is one to 10 and all facilitators are Texas educators. For more information, call 817-562-4957, or visit www.educationinaction.org/lone-star-leadership-academy.

From McCoy Elementary, 5th graders Syndey Lewis, Carter Norton, and Noah Stewart attended the academy camps. From Polk Middle School, 6th grader Gavin Bloom represented the Eagles, and 4th graders Vivian Lewis and Lola Poetschke represented Stark Elementary.

Every CFBISD Secondary Student Will Have a Laptop for the 2018-2019 School Year

Every CFBISD Secondary Student Will Have a Laptop for the 2018-2019 School Year**UPDATE** Over the past three years, CFB has purchased Chromebooks (grades 3-12) and iPads (grades PreK-2) to build the digital learning experience of students.  Over three years, the Board of Trustees allocated approximately $7 million from local funds and from the Instructional Materials Allotment provided by TEA to purchase devices.  The district phased in the devices to allow for incremental purchase and to create a reasonable replacement cycle.  Teachers have received training in digital learning practices over the past several years to prepare for the eventual 1:1 roll-out. For 2018-19, CFB will launch 1:1 experience for students in grades 6-12.

Every 6th-12th grade student in CFBISD will begin the year with a Chromebook to use for schoolwork and homework. At this stage of the one-to-one technology program, each student will be assigned a laptop (Chromebook) that the student will take to each class and home in the evenings. Much like a textbook, the Chromebook will be checked out to the individual student.

In CFBISD, we believe technology can transform learning in a powerful way. Technology is designed to be used for any time anyplace learning. Having consistent access to a Chromebook allows teachers and students to engage in new and exciting learning opportunities.

Secondary campus personnel will communicate with parents and students regarding topics like the checkout process and care of the Chromebook. Student and parent questions will be addressed at Meet the Teacher Nights, Open Houses, Schedule Pick-Up Events and more.
