Ranchview Student Sets Golf Record

Ranchview High School golfer Ava Castillo had a record setting performance at the Jesuit Dallas Invitational Tournament at Brookhavon Country Club in Farmers Branch. Ava shot a 77 in her final senior varsity golf tournament before the district tournament. Her score of 77 is the lowest recorded score ever by a Ranchview H.S. varsity girl golfer. Ava Castillo finished tied for 5th place out a strong field of 108 girls. The District Tournament will be March 22 - 23 at The Tenison Glens Course in Dallas. Congrats, Ava!

Newman Smith Orchestra Excels at UIL

This week Newman Smith High School Orchestra competed in UIL concert and sight reading contest.

For the sixth consecutive year Smith Orchestra received “sweepstakes” awards (averaging superior ratings in both concert and sight reading) with every group that went. This is the highest honor you can receive at contest.

This year the sub non-varsity, non-varsity, varsity string, and varsity full (strings combined with winds and percussion from band) all earned sweepstakes awards.

This is also the 31st consecutive year that the varsity orchestra has received sweepstakes at UIL concert and sight reading contest.

CFBISD Students Compete in “Destination Imagination”

 

CFBISD students showcase their creativity and innovation at local academic competition February 25, 2017 – 3 advance to the State Tournament!

TVNC Destination Imagination hosted an innovative, fun-filled tournament called Destination Imagination (DI) at Guyer High School in Denton, TX. Student teams from more than 200 North Texas schools presented their creative solutions to a number of mind-bending challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and social entrepreneurship.

12 CFB teams spent weeks perfecting their Challenge Solutions prior to the tournament. Each solution was bursting with distinctive creativity and innovation.   Teams from Country Place Elementary, Kent Elementary and Turner High School have advanced to Texas state tournament to be held in Lubbock April 7-9.

The 5th grade Country Place team earned 1st place in Improvisational Theater.  Team members include: Scotty Brady, Olivia Brewer, Jaclyn, Decherd, Olivia Ker, Tre Macias, Quentin Maese and Reid Sherman.  The team is managed by parent volunteer, Abbie Sherman.

The 4th grade Kent Elementary team earned 1st place in Fine Arts.  Team members include: Nina Barrientos, Jenny Cho, Sabah Parali, Katelyn Sorensen and Caroline Wimberly.  The team is managed by parent volunteer, April Sorensen.

The Turner High School team earned 2nd place in DI Extreme.  Team members include: Riley Carlin, Jordan Gottschalk, Hannah Norris and Graham Viegut.  The team is managed by parent volunteer, Catherine Carlin.

Ranchview Students Earn Division Medals at the UIL Solo & Ensemble Competition

On January 25th students from the Ranchview Band participated in the Region 31 UIL Solo and Ensemble Competition at Coppell HS.  The students had amazing performances and represented Ranchview well. In total, Ranchview earned 44 first division medals including 27 students qualifying for the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest.  Congratulations to all the students below!

Of the 27 advancing to State, the 9 students listed below memorized their solo and earned a 1st division qualifying them to advance to State:

Farmers Branch Star Party

What: Star Party

When: Tuesday, March 7th from dusk (7:00pm) to around 9:00pm

Where: Farmers Branch Historical Park (2540 Farmers Branch Lane Farmers Branch, TX 75234)

Who: All CFB students, families, and residents

Please join the Texas Astronomical Society on Tuesday, March 7th at the Farmers Branch Historical Park for an evening under the stars.  We will have 5-6 large telescopes pointed at various objects in the night sky such as the moon, planets, and various star clusters. You do not need to stay the whole time, come at any time and enjoy the sights.  Personnel will be on hand running each telescope and will tell you a little about the objects you are viewing.

In case of cloudy weather the event will be moved to Thursday the 9th

Congratulations to all of our athletes who represented CFBISD at STATE WRESTLING this past weekend in Cypress, Texas. We are very proud of you! With several of them returning next year, I am sure they will be on the road BACK TO STATE!

Bronco Lead Group of Barbara Bush Middle School Visit Citi Corp.

The 8th Grade Bronco Lead Group of Barbara Bush middle School attended a very special field trip to Citi Corp. in Irving. This large facility houses 5000 employees and mans a 24 hour call center for banking customers from all over the world. Also at this facility, there are Scrum teams who work together to develop new mobile technology for Citi and are constantly developing new ways to keep their banking customers satisfied. The students visited the call center, the fitness center, and learned about the importance of having a positive digital footprint, now and in the future. They learned about Citi's commitment to community volunteering and about various careers that can be pursued as an employee of this large corporation. Thanks to Citi for hosting them and to these leaders for representing Barbara Bush Middle School so well!

IB Scholars at Barbara Bush Middle School Recognized as Principled Students

Congratulations to these IB Scholars at Barbara Bush Middle School! They have been recognized by their teachers as being principled students. According to the International Baccalaureate, principled people act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. They take responsibility for their actions and their consequences. These students enjoyed lunch with one of our community leaders, Mr. Dany Smith. He talked with the students about his college career, some of the 28 patents that he holds, and how he is principled in his daily work as a designer for Toyota. Congratulations to all of these Learner Profile Leaders!
