The Dallas Area Young Lawyers Foundation has awarded a $500 grant to the Law and Criminal Justice Academy at Creekview High School. The grant has been awarded to help keep competitive travel for Mock Trial and Moot Court accessible to all talented students, regardless of their financial position. Law Academy Director, Jonathan Ray, stated, “CFBISD appreciates all of our community partners. Thank you, DAYL Foundation for your support of public education!”.

RHS Choir Advances to Area Auditions
Members of the Ranchview High School Choir have placed at the SSC Region 5 pre-Area auditions:

These students, led by Choir Director, Laura J. Roberts, now advance to the area audition to be held in January, 2019. If they are selected from the area auditions, they will have the opportunity to perform with the All-State Choir in San Antonio in February. Only 32 students were chosen to advance from Region 5 – seven of which are from RHS. More students from Ranchview are going to the Area audition than any of the other ten schools that participated in our region.
Farmers Branch Elementary Celebrates 50th Anniversary
On Nov. 28, Farmers Elementary celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Built in 1968, the campus has been a place of learning and nostalgic memories for former students and staff for half a century. Current students, their parents, and former students, former principals, and former teachers attended the event. Albums from the school’s past were on display and FBE students performed songs for attendees.

Ranchview’s Park Wins Denton Golf Tournament
Ranchview High School sophomore, Bohyun Park, took top place in the Eaton Invitational. At the event, held at Denton Country Club, Park finished the game with a score of 70. This is her 12th high school career victory.
CFBISD Earns State’s Highest Financial Accountability Rating
The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) received a “A” for “Superior Achievement” under Texas’ School FIRST financial accountability rating system. The Superior Achievement rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of CFBISD’s financial management and reporting system.
“CFBISD is proud to have earned another ‘A’ rating for our sound fiscal management,” said Tonya Tillman, Associate Superintendent of Business Services. “This rating demonstrates that CFBISD is focused on high achievement for each student as well as being good stewards of taxpayer money. In our strategic plan, objective 3 is to continuously improve operational effectiveness and this ‘A’ rating aligns with that objective.”
The School FIRST accountability rating system assigns one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts, with the highest being “Superior Achievement,” followed by “Above-Standard Achievement,” “Standard Achievement” and “Substandard Achievement.”

CFB Hosts 2018 Service Awards Dinner
On Oct. 13, CFB honored staff who were celebrating working at the district for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years. Centuries of dedication to students were honored as CFB staff members were thanked for what they do to make the district successful.

Landry Teacher Honored at 2018 Unsung Heroes Breakfast
On Nov. 15, the CFBISD Educational Foundation held its 2018 Unsung Heroes Breakfast at Brookhaven Country Club. Nominees for the Unsung Hero award and their principals from all CFB campuses were present. Fox 4 anchor, Mike Doocy, a former CFB parent, was the emcee for the event. Retired Dallas Cowboy, Dat Nguyen, was the guest speaker. The Unsung Heroes event showcases teachers that go above and beyond for their students. Landry Elementary principal, Stephanie Lopez, stated that Unsung Hero Malinda Maus “is the embodiment of ‘whatever it takes.'” Lopez continued, “No words convey the true nature of the Magical Malinda Maus, and Landry is truly blessed to witness her enchantment in the flesh.”

CHS Performs “The Little Mermaid”
The Creekview High School theatre department will be performing the musical, The Little Mermaid, this November. Ticket prices range from $5-12. Performances include Broadway-quality sets and performances by Creekview High School student singers and dancers. The musical will be performed in the Creekview High School Auditorium, 3201 Old Denton Rd., Carrollton, TX, 75007.

Carrollton Elementary 3rd Grader Wins Essay Contest
Kaila De Leon, third grade student at Carrollton Elementary, was one of only 12 winners of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy Student Essay Contest. Kaila was honored at the Celebration of Reading breakfast at AT&T Stadium and was joined by Dr. John Chapman, CFBISD Superintendent of Schools, Mrs. Monica Koen, Carrollton Elementary Principal and Kaila’s parents.
The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy contest invites students to share about books that have impacted and inspired them drawing hundreds of imaginative responses from students in grades 2-5 throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The panel of judges reviewed the entries and selected a total of 12 winners.
Dallas Business Journal Names ECHS Among Top Public Schools
The Dallas Business Journal has ranked the top 16 public high schools in North Texas, and has included Early College High School among the rankings. The publication based their assessment on student achievement, school progress, and performance. Factors such as college preparedness, STAAR test scores and ACT test results were considered.
