Michelle Bach, a 2015 graduate of R. L. Turner High School, is among the top 25 Stanford graduates for 2019. For being in the top 25 in her class, Bach will receive the prestigious Sterling Award at graduation this May. Stanford University states, “The Sterling Award is one of our most selective academic awards. It is based on overall academic performance. It is presented to the top 25 students each year, who majored in a Humanities and Sciences department or program. President Sterling, for whom the award was named, was a distinguished Chancellor and former President of the university. It was during his tenure, from 1949 to 1968, that Stanford achieved national prominence, in part through Sterling’s efforts to create “steeples of excellence,” clusters of top scholars that would attract the best students in the country.”
BioMed Program
While at Turner, Bach was enrolled in the BioMed Academy. While in BioMed, Bach became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Additionally, Bach was the valedictorian of her graduating class at RLT. Bach stated, “my experiences helped cultivate my interest in medicine and public health. I was able to witness first-hand the invaluable physician-patient interaction.” Bach is graduating with an interdisciplinary major called Science, Technology, and Society. Her extracurricular activities include conducting research, volunteering at a free clinic, teaching, and singing.
When asked for advice she would give to current students in CFB, she stated “Find things that you’re passionate about–something that you absolutely love doing! It could be singing, dancing, sports, research, community service, history, english literature, etc. Continue to pursue those passions in college and in life!”
