RHS Golfers Sweep Tournaments

RHS Golfers Sweep TournamentsOn Feb. 13, RHS golfer Bohyun Park traveled to Los Angeles to compete in the American Junior Golf Association Shanshan Feng Buick Invitational. The event is comprised of the best junior golfers in the world. Park scored a 71 in her final round to place in the top 5. After completing competition at the Invitational, Park returned home to compete against regional golfers to win her 14th high school career tournament victory with a 5 under 67 par.

Freshman Mackenzie Dadje captured the Junior Varsity Par 3 Tournament with an impressive score of 84. Fellow freshman Skylar Yoo and senior Irene Lee tied for second with a score of 93. Finally, freshman Emily Jones secured a second place JV team finish with a 103.

NSHS and RHS Basketball Heading to UIL Playoffs

NSHS and RHS Basketball Heading to UIL PlayoffsThe Varsity boys basketball teams from Newman Smith and Ranchview High Schools are advancing to UIL Playoffs. On Monday, Smith triumphed over Spruce to advance to the second round of playoffs. Additionally, on Wednesday, Ranchview out-played Western Hills to advance to the second round. The Trojans are coached by Percy Johnson and the Wolves are coached by Dee Boyd. Area round playoffs will be held Friday, Feb. 22.

Lion Wrestlers Advance to Regionals

Lion Wrestlers Advance to RegionalsOn Feb. 7, the R. L. Turner Lion wrestlers competed in the District 9 Championships. Every wrestler qualified to Regional competition, which will be held Feb. 15. The girls’ team placed 2nd in district as a team. Additionally, the boys’ team placed 7th in district as a team.

Ranchview Athletes Heading to College

Ranchview Athletes Heading to CollegeThanks to their academic and athletic performance, there are five Ranchview athletes heading to college in the fall. On national signing day, David Carter signed to play football at Midwestern State University. His teammate Darius Myers signed to play football with Texas A&M Commerce. Troy McKnight will run track for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Tajaia Paddio will also run track – for Texas Southern University Ga’Nae Gaines will play basketball for University of the Ozarks.

Turner Athletes Receive Athletic ScholarshipsOn National Signing Day, five Turner athletes signed to play their sport in college. Avery Burgess and RLT teammate, Lorenzo Martinez, will both play baseball for Dallas Christian College. Destiny Ighile will play volleyball for Brookhaven College. Additionally, Destiny’s teammates Delanie Adair and Cindy Vides will play volleyball for Sterling College.

Creekview Mustangs Sign with CollegesOn national signing day, eight Mustangs from Creekview High School signed with colleges. The athletes received scholarships not only for their athletic abilities, but also for their academic performance.

Football

Luke McPherson will play football at Midwestern State University. Damari Haynes will play football for Eastern New Mexico University. Brandon Lockett will play football for McPherson College. Additionally, his twin brother, Bradley Lockett will play football for Western Colorado University.

Baseball

Tanner Shotwell will play baseball for Lyon College.

Swimming

Keith Matthews will swim for Ouachita Baptist University.

Soccer

Marissa Gray will play soccer for Baylor University. Victoria Sifuentes will play soccer for Brookhaven College.

Newman Smith Athletes Sign With Colleges

On national signing day, Feb. 6, two Newman Smith athletes signed with colleges. Mia Montiel received a scholarship to play soccer at Richland College. Additionally, Jalen Hughes received a scholarship to play football at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. These students were awarded these scholarships for their academic record and athletic ability.

Trojan Swimmers Advance to Regionals

Trojan Swimmers Advance to RegionalsAt the District Swim Meet in The Colony, Newman Smith High School Trojan swimmers yielded 19 new personal best times. Cody Imthurn led the way for the boys, highlighted with a new school record in the 100m backstroke. Imthurn just missed the school record in the 200m Freestyle. Vince Nguyen had a personal best, dropping 2 seconds in the 100m butterfly. These swimmers teamed up with Reid Jamesmeyer, Eden Nguyen, Jeffrey Salgado, and Rory Manley to advance all three relays to Regionals.  The boys 400m Free relay team of Rory Manley, Eden Nguyen, Vince Nguyen and Cody Imthurn finished the night with a 3rd place and a best time.

Eleanna Martinez led the girls’ team with a new best time in her 200m Freestyle, also qualifying her 500m Freestyle and a 3rd place finish. Keaira Rosales qualified her individual events to advance as well. Lauren Chadwick dropped 15 seconds in the 200m Freestyle swim, and 17 seconds in the 500m Freestyle. Additionally, Shelby Moore and Elsa Thompson had personal best times in their events. Deana Popovic showed speed getting her best time in the 50m Freestyle and Cassidy Hatch helped represent in all 3 relays.

Regional Qualifiers

Trojans that will advance to regionals are Cody Imthurn, Rory Manley, Eden Nguyen, Vince Nguyen, Jeffrey Salgado, Reid Jamesmeyer, Eleanna Martinez, Keaira Rosales and Napoleon Ferrer for Diving.

Regionals will be held in 2 weeks, with the Finals at Frisco.

Wolfpack Swimmers Advance to Regionals

Wolfpack Swimmers Advance to RegionalsRanchview High School Wolfpack swimmers competed at the annual District Swim Meet held in The Colony on Jan. 18, scoring 8 new personal best times. RHS senior, Allysa Garcia, took 3rd place in the 100m Butterfly, shaving additional second off her own school record. Freshman Ellie Gayden continues to best her solid time and advancement in the 100m Freestyle event. These swimmers teamed up with Maina Atluri and Lerymar Rivera in all 3 relays to advance on to regionals.

Brothers Ishan and Ahan Mistry will be representing Ranchview in their individual swims. Ishan will be swimming the 50m Freestyle and Ahan will swim the 500m Freestyle.

Advancing to Regionals

Regional Qualifiers are Allysa Garcia, Ellie Gayden, Maina Atluri, Lerymar Rivera, Ishan and Ahan Mistry.

Swimming will be held in 2 weeks. Friday is prelims and Finals will take place in Frisco on Saturday.

CFB Cheer Teams Head to Championships

CFB Cheer Teams Head to ChampionshipsCFB Cheer Teams from all four high schools will be representing the district at the UIL Texas State Spirit Championships. The competition will be held at the Fort Worth Convention Center Jan. 18-19. There is a cost of $15 per day to attend for those who wish to cheer them on during their competition.

Teams making the Finals will be announced at 1 PM. Finals will begin at 6:04 PM with Awards Ceremony at 8:30 PM.
