The Varsity boys basketball teams from Newman Smith and Ranchview High Schools are advancing to UIL Playoffs. On Monday, Smith triumphed over Spruce to advance to the second round of playoffs. Additionally, on Wednesday, Ranchview out-played Western Hills to advance to the second round. The Trojans are coached by Percy Johnson and the Wolves are coached by Dee Boyd. Area round playoffs will be held Friday, Feb. 22.

On Feb. 7, the R. L. Turner Lion wrestlers competed in the District 9 Championships. Every wrestler qualified to Regional competition, which will be held Feb. 15. The girls’ team placed 2nd in district as a team. Additionally, the boys’ team placed 7th in district as a team.

Ranchview High School Wolfpack swimmers competed at the annual District Swim Meet held in The Colony on Jan. 18, scoring 8 new personal best times. RHS senior, Allysa Garcia, took 3rd place in the 100m Butterfly, shaving additional second off her own school record. Freshman Ellie Gayden continues to best her solid time and advancement in the 100m Freestyle event. These swimmers teamed up with Maina Atluri and Lerymar Rivera in all 3 relays to advance on to regionals.
