Newman Smith Swim Team Regional Results

Untitled-2

This past weekend your Trojan swimmers swam with pride against 23 other teams at the Regional Swim Meet held in Frisco.  But the ride is not over for Newman Smith as Sarah Clarke automatically qualified for STATE with a 2nd place finish in the 100 Butterfly.   She also had a strong showing the 50 freestyle with a 5th place finish and a possible other swim for STATE.It was a great weekend overall for those that competed.    Everyone that qualified for Regional prelims, qualified for Saturday Finals!

The girls 200 Medley Relay was a Freshman/Senior divide with two freshman Eleanna Martinez and Keaira Rosales, both posting personal bests in their races.   Eleanna leading off the relay with a strong 50 backstroke and Keaira Rosales finishing the relay and breaking under the 30 second mark in her 50 free.   Clarke went a personal best with a personal best of 30 seconds in her 50 breast and Julia Walsdorf holding on in the 50 butterly.   Walsdorf also had two strong console swims, besting both of her times from Friday in the 200 Free and 100 backstroke.

On the boys side, Max Garcia led the charge with a NEW SCHOOL RECORD in the 100 backstroke.   He also led off the 200 Medley relay and was helped by Connor Hudson, Oscar Cardenas and David Alvarez just barely missing the school record.   Alvarez anchoring the relay and breaking the 25 second barrier with a 24.9 in his 50 Free.    Another strong finish and time was shown by Oscar Cardenas, Reid Jamesmeyer, Connor Hudson, And Max Garcia in the 400 Free relay.   All four boys giving their best swims and times to come out strong in the very last event of the day.It was a great weekend and career end to our seniors who have represented Newman Smith with pride and determination.

It is with great hope to see what the years to come will show with amazing Freshman swims!

The STATE swim meet will be held in Austin in two weeks.

The wrestling Trojans traveled to Arlington Sam Houston for a varsity boys tournament on Saturday, January 21st. Due to injury and the SAT, the Trojan varsity squad was depleted even more than normal, but the young men that did travel wrestled hard all day. Kendall Iwuagwu wrestled tough through all six of his matches on the day and ended the day with a fourth place finish. Freshman 106 pounder Anthony Machorro led the Trojans on the day with a second place finish. He won his first two matches on the day and nearly pulled out the victory in the final.

The Trojans conclude the regular season next week with a double dual at Creekview versus Highland Park and Lancaster on Thursday and the Arlington Bowie tournament on Friday and Saturday. All levels of wrestlers will participate in these final regular season events then they will start preparing for the varsity district tournament on February 9th and JV district tournament on February 14th.
