2018 Summer Reading Assignment

2018 Creekview High School Summer Reading – Mandatory Assignment*

Reading a minimum of one book over the summer is mandatory for all Creekview students!

We look forward to hearing about the book(s) you read! Once you have read a book (or more!) you enjoy reading, please complete the following assignment and bring it with you on the first day of school in August:

On a sheet of paper, write down the name of the title and author of the book you chose. Then copy down 5-7 quotes from the book (including page numbers) that are meaningful to you or are important to the book.

Creekview’s ELA department expects you to set aside time this summer to read at least one self- selected book. This book should be appropriate to your reading level and a title that you have not read previously. If you are struggling to find a title that interests you, consider the following resources—

  • TAYSHAS: www.txla.org/groups/TAYSHAS
  • Young Adult Library Services: www.ala.org/yalsa/booklistsawards/booklistsbook
  • YALSA’s Teen Book Finder: http://www.ala.org/yalsa/products/teenbookfinder (use this website for instructions on how to download the App)
  • Teen Reads: www.teenreads.com/
  • GoodReads: https://www.goodreads.com/ (available as an App)
  • Twitter & Instagram: #CHSliteracy (Be sure to share your recommendations, too!)
  • Carrollton Public Libraries Summer Reading Program: http://www.cityofcarrollton.com/departments/departments-g-p/library/library- calendar/summer-reading-program

If you are struggling to find a copy of your title, consider the following locations—

  • Online or eBooks
  • Half Price Books, 420 FM3040, Lewisville, TX
  • Barnes and Noble, 2325 S Stemmons Fwy suite 401, Lewisville, TX
  • Carrollton Public Library (note: two locations)
    • 1700 Keller Springs Rd, Carrollton, TX
    • 4220 N Josey Ln, Carrollton, TX

Creekview High School encourages self-selected reading because research proves that it leads to high achievement in all classes. Reading leads to better writing and thinking, an increase in background and practical knowledge, a development in life long reading habits, and an increase in standardized test scores in ALL areas.

* G/T and AP level teachers have assigned specific summer reading texts and additional assignments for their courses; please consult Creekview’s website for the individual summer assignments for these classes.
