Field Middle School 8th grader, Juliana Rios, has been awarded a trip to Washington, D.C. Rios composed an essay for the Do The Write Thing Challenge 2018. Rios’ essay advocated for teens to play a role in violence awareness. Whether it’s through the music they listen to, TV shows they watch, or social media posts they engage in; Rios challenged young people, to pay a bigger role in taking action against violence. Students from across the country were asked to participate in the Do The Write Thing Challenge. Rios’ essay was one of two final selections from our area out of 370 competing entries in the same region. Rios will spend 4 days in Washington, D.C. with a parent, and Field Middle School’s Community in Schools representative, Brenda Flores. As part of her stay, she will participate in National Recognition Week activities. Her essay, along with other jurisdiction’s winners, will be published and distributed to business, community and governmental leaders. Rios will continue her academic journey at Early College High School next school year.
