Smith Wrestling vs. Wiley East & Melissa

Trojan wrestling had a spectacular night tonight as we took home our first two dual meet wins of the season versus Wiley East and Melissa. Our Trojans fought tough against the host school, Wiley East, with a 28-24 victory. While both programs competed valiantly, in the end, the Trojans proved to be too much for their opponents. Notable victories in the first dual of the evening went came from Chris Conway, who continues to impress in his first year of competition, and Darien Dozier. Both young men won each of their matches on the evening.

In the second dual of the evening, the Trojan wrestlers accomplished something that hasn’t happened during Coach Pierce’s tenure, and probably hasn’t happened in quite some time. The Trojan boys’ team wrestled the Melissa boys’ team and shut them out. Again, neither team fielded all fourteen weight classes, but once the coaches matched up the wrestlers, the Trojans went on to a 42-0 victory. Not included in that score were two JV matches that were also both won by the Trojans, and most impressive was the fact that every victory was a pin!

Following the boys’ matches, the Trojan girls went 1-1 with Neriaha Wofford pinning her opponent, but Barbie Sanchez took a hard fought loss. This night marks the second of the Trojans four district dual nights. The third will be next week on Thursday night when the Trojans travel to RL Turner to take on the Lions and Creekview Mustangs in the Battle of Carrollton. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 6:00, so make the short trip to Turner and show your Trojan Pride!
