Mentor Programs

New teachers to ECHS

  • Paired up with veteran teachers throughout the year.
  • Establish culture and expectations for performance.
  • Share a common book study.
  • Periodically assist new teachers at specific times of the year.
  • Examples:  grading, report cards, Open House

Big Bear/Little Bear (Student Program):

“Big Bear, Little Bear” is a program designed to help underclassmen (especially 9th graders) transition from middle school to a high school/college campus in the best way possible.

By mentoring underclassmen, we hope to encourage students to have better attendance, to improve attitudes about school and school work, to understand how their behavior impacts their grades, and to offer tutoring when necessary. We also hope to build important relationships with those who are feeling isolated here at ECHS.

Girls Empowered by Women (adult-student program):

Girls Empowered by Mentoring (GEM) is designed to bring together experienced women with young women in C-FBISD Early College High School. These relationships are intended to empower the students to reach their full potential, navigate effective ways to continue their education and to build self-confidence. The young women will be referred to as “scholars”.

Mentor: An adult woman who is a member of AAUW, a resident or a member of a business, educational or community organization in the Dallas Metroplex.

Local Alliance of Male Mentors (adult-student):

The program is designed at the Early College High School to provide strong support for select male students as they advance and prepare themselves for college and adult citizenship. The college-educated and business oriented professional men who volunteer as mentors with LAMM are not “big brothers”, counselors, or tutors. However, they want to help you reach your goals as a student.
