NSHS Construction Class Teaches Lifelong Skills

NSHS Construction Class Teaches Lifelong SkillsThe NSHS Construction Class Teaches Lifelong Skills, in working with tools and making repairs. Instructor, David McGuill, has been with CFBISD since 1986 and has been teaching the construction class for over 10 years at Newman Smith High School. Students are taught how to properly and safely use manual and power tools. Regarding these skills, Mr. McGuill stated, “once they know how to use the tools and materials, I let them solve the problems. Sometimes we repair items here in the school.”

Most recently, the class took on painting specific parking spaces in front of the school. Students learned how to select the right type of paint for the project, the right type of tool to apply the paint and how to properly mask the area for an aesthetic result.
