Military
CFBISD offers access to the military as a post-secondary option. The U.S. Military provides training and work experience in a variety of military careers. Members of the Armed Forces work in almost all occupations that are available to civilians in addition to occupations that are specific to the military. Service men and women serve on active duty in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, or in the Reserve components of these branches, and the Air National Guard and California Army National Guard.
The military employs people in many different occupational specialties, many of which are similar to civilian occupations. There are two- and four-year Reserve Officers Training (ROTC) Programs in colleges leading to a commission as an officer. During their junior and senior years of college, students can receive stipends of $450 to $500 per month.
Visit Today’s Military, a website provided by the U.S. Department of Defense, to learn about military entrance requirements, how to contact a recruiter, and questions to ask a recruiter.
Internships
Reasons why high school students would want to do an internship:
- Completing an internship is a great way to begin exploring career options.
- Completing an internship helps students decide what courses they may like to take when they begin college.
- Most importantly, completing an internship can set you apart from your peers.
AVID
Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills.
AVID Tutors Needed!
AVID trained tutors facilitate learning in study groups by subject that leads to increased student participation and success. Tutors are there to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and deepen their understanding of content and concepts in a collaborative, supportive setting. Tutors are essential to the success of AVID, acting as a resource and role model for AVID students both academically and socially.
For more information about becoming an AVID Tutor, please contact Katie Tilton at 972-968-6563.
CFBISD Academies
CFBISD offers competitive and outstanding education at any of our high schools and through any one of our specific academies. The rigor of our programs exposes students to accelerated learning and opens a variety of doors to post-secondary options. Students in all programs participate in field trips and earn dual credit for college. Students apply to these programs during their 8th-grade year and are selected according to the criteria of grades, attendance records, state assessments, essays and teacher recommendations.
