Creekview Mock Trial Competes in Atlanta

The Creekview High School Mock Trial team competed at the Empire Mock Trial Tournament in Atlanta, GA. In 4 rounds, over the course of 2 days, students presented both the prosecution and defense sides in a criminal case. The case involved a confrontation between a white supremacist speaker at a public university and a counter-protester. Students also argued a pre-trial motion. The motion concerned whether, under the first amendment, the university could charge a disproportionate security fee to the speaker based upon a conclusion that his speech could incite violence.

Awards

Law Academy President Joanna Boyer, in her first-ever Mock Trial Tournament, earned a Top Attorney Award. Mock Trial Captain Jazmin Torres earned a Top Witness Award for her portrayal of crane operator Joey Amber. Amber was a former classmate of the defendant and eyewitness to the assault. Torres maintained a Boston accent for the duration of the tournament.
