CHS Law Students Win UTEP Tournament 4 Years Running

Four the fourth year in a row, the Creekview High School Moot Court team competed at the UTEP Tournament, taking top honors. The University of Texas at El Paso Moot Court Tournament dealt with a case involving the 8th Amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment. In the case brought before the students, an inmate who suffers from vascular dementia due to multiple strokes and cannot remember the crime for which he is to be executed was heard. The real case the scenario is based on is pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Evan Miller and Daniel Sawyers won 1st Place at the event and Evan Miller was also awarded Top Overall Advocate. Makaylia Askew and Avery Worley won 4th Place, while Aileen Mai and Sadie Stevenson advance to quarterfinals.
