Congratulations to the Newman Smith Robotics Team.
The team, composed of students from The Science/Engineering Pathway Program, finished third at the 2016 BEST UIL Robotics Hub Competition Saturday at Brookhaven College qualifying for State Competition December 8, in Frisco, Texas.
The 2016 Texas BEST UIL State Robotics Championship, hosted by the University of Texas at Dallas, will be held at the Dr Pepper Arena & Convention Center in Frisco.
The competition will bring together seventy-two champion teams from across Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico.
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to tour the UT Dallas Campus including the Jonsson School of Engineering and its innovative labs. Students will network with industry professionals through mentoring sessions, learn about careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) and most importantly celebrate their success.
Students from two Science/Engineering Pathway classes actually designed, engineered and manufactured the NSHS Robot entry in the Hub competition.
Students are required to write a engineering notebook summarizing the processes involved in the design and engineering of the robot.
Also, students are required to present a marketing presentation, create a display booth and be interviewed by judges.
The actual competition team is comprised of twelve Science/Engineering Pathway students.
The program is taught by Meaghan DeLong.
